Obituary of Bryan Mason
MASON, Bryan Gordon – Age 79 of Halifax, it is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Bryan Gordon Mason, who died peacefully at home with his family at his side on December 3, 2024.
Bryan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maureen Ellen Mason (nee Bahen); children,
Cynthia and Geoffrey; daughter-in-law, Catherine; grandchildren, Caitlin (Garret), James
and Gillian (Ceilidh); great-granddaughter, Claire.
Also surviving is brother, Robert Mason (Diane); brothers-in-law, Joseph Angelini, Peter
Bahen, Steven Bahen, Bryan Bahen (Barb), Terry Bahen (Joan), Paul Bahen; sisters
in law, Katherine Thacker (Ron), and Patricia Bahen as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bryan was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Isabel Mason; in-laws, Arthur
and Alice Bahen; sister Carol Angelini and his sister-in-law, Lynne Bahen.
Bryan graduated from McGill University then started his career at Lakehead University as an Assistant to the President. At the age of 28, he became the youngest Vice President
at a Canadian University when he was appointed VP of Administration at Lakehead University eventually taking on the role of VP Finance/Administration.
In 1986 Bryan and Maureen moved to Halifax when he took the position of VP
Finance/Administration at Dalhousie University where he worked until his retirement.
Over the years Bryan volunteered for many organizations including St. Joseph’s Hospital Board in Thunder Bay, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Nova Scotia Cancer Society Board of Directors.
In 2013 Byan was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his many contributions to Dalhousie University.
Bryan was a generous and kind man who will be deeply missed by our entire family.
His love of learning, sense of honour, unwaivering logic, and keen wit served us all extremely well.
Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. In keeping with Bryan’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.
