Craig Edward Bowes.
December 13, 1953 – October 28, 2024
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Craig Edward Bowes at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, peacefully with family by his side, following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.
Craig was a much loved husband, son, brother, cousin, nephew and friend. He was born in Toronto and raised in Agincourt, Ontario, where he met his wife, Marion. Craig attended Agincourt High School, and following graduation, joined The Consumers Gas Company (now Direct Energy). Craig enjoyed a long career as a Gas Fitter, making many lifelong friends along the way.
Marion and Craig raised their 3 children in Scarborough and Pickering, Ontario. They enjoyed watching their children play a variety of sports, camping on long weekends, and spending summers at a family cottage in Haliburton. Craig pursued his interests which included renovating his home, tinkering on the family vehicle, and spending time eating and dancing with friends. Craig took an early retirement and along with his wife Marion, left the big city behind and moved across the country. They settled in Seabright, Nova Scotia, a small, quaint seaside community and a quiet ocean life they both loved.
Craig was happiest renovating his new home, sitting on his deck or exploring the Atlantic provinces he loved so much. He loved to fix things; cars, trucks, lawn mowers, snowblowers and anything and everything in between. He loved card games, outdoor lawn games, walking on the beach, and even attempted to learn to surf on Martinique Beach (at the age of 68!). During cold winter nights you could find him sitting by the warm fire watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. If he wasn’t doing that, he loved listening to jazz and blues music. He spent many nights with Marion listening to his favorite artists or finding concert venues in the city where they could watch and listen. Craig also had a love of food, and enjoyed exploring Halifax, and Nova Scotia, in search of new places to dine.
Craig was a kind man with a quiet manner. A twinkle in his eye and quick, dry wit that always caught you off guard. He had many friends, spread out over the country, leaving quite a mark along the way.
Craig was predeceased by his parents William and Shirley, and his brothers Brian and Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Marion, sons Bryan (Melody), Brendan (Lyndsay) and daughter Stephanie (Chris). Grandchildren, Eddie, Kiedis, Emma, Stryder, Olivia, Luke and Sadie. Craig is also survived by his sisters Gail and Beverley (Reynold) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thank you to Dr. Mark Taylor and his entire ENT team and all the wonderful caring nurses on 3B who looked after him so well so many times over his 7 year journey.
It was Craig’s wish to be cremated and that there is no visitation or service. A private family function will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax in Craig’s memory.
