Yvonne was born and lived her entire life in West LaHave. After graduation from Bridgewater High School, she took some night school classes and then worked in the office at Boehner Woodworkers before becoming a mother. She spent the following years making a home for her growing family. She went back to work in the early 1970, s at Himmelman Supply in LaHave and remained employed with the Himmelman family and expanding companies until her retirement.
Yvonne was community minded and always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed which led to her commitment to volunteering. She served on the home and school council, UCW, Guild, as well as cooking and baking for the church suppers and teas and volunteering her time as church organist in the New Dublin Parish which often included searching the river road for anyone willing to join the choir for funerals and holding choir practice in her home. Her proudest moment of volunteering came after having survived breast cancer when she decided to join our QEII team for the “Run for the Cure”. She worked diligently to raise several thousand dollars as well as accompanying her team members on the whole run (although we walked).
Our Mom was a very hard worker, loving, compassionate, a strict disciplinarian but always our greatest supporter in all our endeavors, she will be dearly missed.
Special thanks to the team of first responders both in West LaHave and Upper Sackville who treated Mom with the utmost care and respect as well as South Shore Regional Emergency doctors and nurses, the team on OBS where she got to hear about all the newborn babes, Cobequid Health Center Emergency and all the staff of 8.1 HI site.
Memorial service to be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, West LaHave. Family burial to follow at Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave. There will be a reception immediately following the burial at the Pleasantville Fire Hall.
