Obituary of Elizabeth Grace Oickle
OICKLE, (Slauenwhite), Elizabeth “Grace” – Age 78 of Lower Northfield, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully Monday, July 8, 2024, in her hospital room at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, with her daughter by her side, holding her hand until the end.
Born in her family home in Lower Northfield, where she grew up raising her youngest brother, Harley, after losing their mother at a young age. She married Victor in 1963, the love of her life. They moved to British Columbia in 1967 where they raised their daughter for many years before moving back to Nova Scotia to be with ailing family and settled their family here. No matter how long they lived in Nova Scotia their hearts have been and will always be in British Columbia. In their later years Victor and Grace drove to British Columbia many times, and when they weren’t driving to British Columbia they were driving around Nova Scotia finding all the Tim Hortons locations.
Grace was predeceased by her husband Victor (1945-2024); her parents, Archibald (1889-1985) and Elizabeth (Westhaver) (1913-1954); brothers, Kenneth (1935-1974), Fred (1936-1988), and Harley (1952-2021); her in-laws, Enos (1901-1984) and Elsie (Oickle) (1906-1977) Oickle; brother-in-law, Vernon (1928-2003) and Enos Doran Jr. (1930-1981); and niece, Tina (Fehr) (1964-2017).
She leaves behind her daughter, Vickie (Paul) Wagner; grandchildren, Daniel (Danika) Wagner, Krystallum Wagner, David Wagner, Klarrissa (Josh) Richard; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Zoey, Abigayle, Neely, Isabelle, Adrienne, Adalynne, and Ruby; brother Harold (Joan); sister-in-law, Paulette (wife of late Kenneth); and several nieces and nephews.
Despite fighting various ailments and being generally unwell, Grace was able to spend her life with the man she loved right up until he passed away in December. Her heart broke that day and never truly recovered. To her grandkids and great-grandkids they will forever be known as Nanny and Bang, and they will always be on the road, travelling and locating the next coffee shop.
There will be no services held at this time. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater where obituary and on-line condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
