SHAND, Sherman Wesley – 80, of Bear Point, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sherman on Thursday, November 29, 2024, at the Halifax QE2 hospital, with his loving family by his side. Sherm was born in Bear point on May 10, 1944 to the late Lloyd and Rowena (Banks) Shand. Sherm started Lobster fishing with his dad at the age of 15. That became his career. He fished many years with his Dad. He continued to fish with Gordon Atwood for many years. He then fished with his son-in-law, Robert d’Entremont, until his retirement at age 65. In his early years, Sherman was an awesome baseball player. With the Bear Point Aces and the Clark’s Harbour Foggies. He was King of the home runs. Pitchers hated to see him step up to home plate. He married his loving wife, Maxine (Obed) on October 8, 1983. In his younger years he enjoyed going to his camp, in Clyde, with his brother Arnold and their buddies. He enjoyed camping with his girls. He enjoyed attending dances at the Pubinco Legion. In later years, he enjoyed watching his beloved Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed watching all ball games. He enjoyed taking Justin to his ballgames. Justin followed in his Dad’s footsteps, as a great ball player. Sherman was so proud of him. He enjoyed the family get-togethers. Especially if there was food involved. He loved pot-lucks. Sherm was a people person. He loved chatting with everyone he knew at Sobeys and No-Frills. He enjoyed getting his McDonald’s coffee every morning and stopping to one of his nieces, hoping to get a treat to go with his coffee. He loved when his grandchildren came to visit. He looked forward to the yearly visits from his grandchildren in Alberta. He made sure he called them all on their birthdays. He survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Maxine; children, Rose (Robert) d’Entremont, Gail (Dave)Nickerson, Sonia (Regean) Robitaille, Justin (Beth) Shand; stepchildren, Connie (Wade) Davis, Gregory (Michelle) Nickerson; grandchildren: Donovan, Rèjeanne, Arielle, Desirèe, Grady, Maddisyn, Ashlyn Hudson and Reid; step-grandchildren, Vanessa, Mirranda, Brett, Brandon, and Tanner; eight great-grandchildren; five nieces, Bonnie, Margaret, Cheryl, Tracy, and Barbara Jean; one nephew, Steven. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Aunley (Lorraine), Arnold (Ida); his niece, Trudy Shand; and nephew, Gerald Shand. A big thank you to the paramedics, the nurses and doctors at Yarmouth Hospital and at the Halifax QE2 for the excellent care. A special thank you to Pastor Jason Parker. Cremation has taken place.
