Lauchie Ethelberg Kehoe escaped this mortal realm on Friday August 30th at the age of 74. We think he did it on purpose to avoid having to pay any more taxes to the local Conservative government.
Lauchie started out in this world a happy child, as the son of Ethelberg & Edna (Bowen) Kehoe. He double graded a few times and ended up in secondary school (NSIT) at the tender age of 15 and graduated in 1969 with a diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology. His first job after graduating was with General Electric Medical Systems, servicing X-ray equipment throughout the Maritimes and Ontario. In 1997 Lauchie accepted a job with Gulf Canada in Point Tupper and transferred to Edmonton, Alberta after the closure of the Point Tupper refinery. In 1985 Lauchie accepted a job with the Mount Pleasant Tungsten Mine in St. George, NB. After a short stay in New Brunswick, Lauchie joined the Weavexx forming plant in Kentville, Nova Scotia and worked there for the next 14 years. In 1999 Lauchie joined Tecknowledge Healthcare System Inc., a forerunner to the current TeleHealth group. In March of 2001 Lauchie moved to the DHW and later transferred to HITS-NS in Halifax.
Lauchie married Michelle Power in 1975 and had two children Melissa & Garrett. His second love came along in St. Peters, Rocky Bay and more recently River Bourgeois.
Lauchie always loved his mother’s cooking and being a man of somewhat limited emotional sentiment, he instead used his cooking as a way of showing his love to others (mostly through cherry squares for his granddaughters). His blueberry pancakes, chicken and berries and chicken parm were some of the family favorites.
Lauchie was world-renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. He always told you the truth, even if it may not have been what you wanted to hear. His authenticity and inability to hold back what he really thought, made him safe and real to be around, and we loved that about him.
Being the enforcer of card game rules, he took this title very seriously. His super power was remembering all the rules, to each and every game ever played. He enjoyed his time playing cards, board games like Tock and working on puzzles. He also loved a good political debate but we tried our best to avoid those as it would be less of a debate and more of a one sided explanation of why you were wrong.
Lauchie was never one for sentiment or religiosity so following his wishes, there will not be a service, but well-wishes are encouraged to write a note of farewell on a Bud Light beer can and drink it in his honor. And we hope to see family and friends at the Celebration of Life. After the celebration there will be a final game of 45 in his honour on Monday, Sept 2nd at 11 am at the Rocky Bay Hall.
Lauchie is survived by his partner Cathy Cotton, his children Meliss Kehoe (Cambridge), and Garrett Kehoe (Lower Sackville), his step children Mitchell Touesnard (Jennifer)Hay River NT, and and Michelynn Touesnard (Brad Nisbet) Berwick NS, and his six granddaughters who he loved more than anything (Jelynne, Josee, Ivy, Charlotte, Sophia, & Poppy). He is also survived by his siblings, George (Claire) Rocky Bay, Carol (Ron Jolly) Antigonish, Dennis (Sharon) Kentville, Jane (Brian Dorey) Rocky Bay, and sister in law Diane and special niece Darlene (Remi Deveau) Antigonish (who was more like a sister) along with many more nieces and nephews.
Lauchie was predeceased by his parents Ethelberg and Edna Kehoe, sister Cecily (Simon Maltby) and brother Michael.Special thanks to his best friend Pat Kehoe who kept him entertained and laughing and was such a good friend right until his last moments here.

In lieu of donations just do something kind for someone and don’t tell anyone you did it, in a true Lauchie fashion.
