Matthews, Dolores Ann, 83 of Grand Anse
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dolores Ann Matthews of Grand Anse, who passed away on August 19th, 2024. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Roseina (Proctor) Cogswell.
Dolores brought warmth and love to whoever was near. She had a passion for bingo like no other. Her bingo companion Shane was always waiting for her and always made sure she made it home safe. We can’t thank Shane enough for his kindness. She was a great baker and made the best banana loaf and biscuits. Every Friday she always made sure that she had something baked for little John. Her family was everything to her. Appreciated the time she spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband Johnny ( Grandma) was the love of her life. She was always by his side through sickness and health. She always enjoyed spending time with her sisters and nephew Howie. Her road trips she always enjoyed and had lots of stories to tell. Every day when phone rang, she knew it was her daily call from her sister- in law Edna. Mom we can no longer see you, but your love and presence will always be felt. We will share your memories with all of our families. She was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 47, St. Peter’s for 40 years.
Dolores is survived by her daughters Lorrie Petrie (Michael), and Melinda Aitken (Michael), both of Grand Anse; sons Bert (Anna), Petit de Grat, John (Jackie), L’Ardoise, David (Janet), Louisdale, Dean (Brenda), and Scott, both of Grand Anse; grandchildren Jasmine, Jessica, Stacy, Russell, Cody, David, Micayla, Megan, Zoey, Joshua, Monica, Michael, Hannah, Bradley; great-grandchildren Isabella, Elin, and Henry.
Dolores was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John (Johnnie Grandma) Matthews; sisters Eleanor, Marjorie, Theresa, Melinda, Elizabeth, Delores, Carol, Geraldine, Pearl; brothers Alexander, Lester, James, Nelson Jr., Philip, and John.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on August 27th at 11 am in St. Louis Cemetery, Louisdale. A luncheon to follow at the family home, everyone is welcome. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (NS).
