The family of
C.J. Pictou, Jr. (Christopher James), regret to announce the passing
of C.J., on November 30th, 2024, after a decades long fight with
Juvenile Diabetes at the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
C.J. was born
at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on September 10th,
1985. “Butter Boy” as Kiju called him, had a love
for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT), hockey and basketball
from an early age and that took him all through high school and
beyond. The only thing that rivalled that was his love for
the powwow trail, drumming, and singing his way throughout Canada and
the U.S. C.J. was a Red Seal Pipefitter and worked all over
Canada making friends along the way. He was known for his TMNT, his
crazy memory for sports, and most of all, his
humour.
C.J. is
survived by his lifelong love, Christina Augustine and the light of
his life, his daughter Kailey Augustine, both of Paqtnkek.
He is also be greatly missed by his parents, Deboraha
Christmas of Paqtnkek MN, and Christopher Pictou, Sr of Paqtnkek MN;
his sister Paula Pictou (Dan Turple) of Dartmouth; brothers:
Dennis Pictou of Paqtnkek MN, Anoogwa Pictou (Cedar
Meuse-Waterman) of Bear River FN, and Kevin Christmas, Sr. (Erica),
Eskasoni; nieces, Ardena Paul (Dustin Young) of Dartmouth, Melissa
Paul (Tyler Watters) of Paqtnkek MN; nephew, Muin Meuse-Pictou of Bear
River FN, and great-nephew Colin Watters-Paul of Paqtnkek
MN. He leaves behind his boys Titus and Ceasar as well as a
huge circle of powwow family and friends that he held near and dear to
his heart.
C.J. was
predeceased by paternal grandparents, Robert James Pictou, Sr. and
Annie Mary Francis; maternal grandparents, Wallace Coutts
and Helen (Coutts) Bernasconi, among many other family and
friends.
Visitation
will begin on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 at 3:00 pm at his home at 55
Saqamaw Road, in Paqtnkek. There will be no church service. Burial at
a later date. A Feast and Salite will be held at the Paqtnkek
Community Centre, 136 Afton Loop, Paqtnkek on Thursday, December 5th,
2024 at 12 p.m.
The family ask
that you dress comfortably, and in TMNT or Montreal
Canadians. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations
to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada (JDRF) and/or the
Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in
Antigonish, NS.
The family
would like to thank Dr. Sooffe, Dr. Rice, Dr. McLaughlin, the nurses
of the Palliative Care Unit, of St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital, the staff of QEII and the medical team in St.
Martha’s PCU Unit for their care and support. Most
of all, we would like to thank Jeremy Paul, who’s been here the whole
way through.
