PIPES, Rowena May
(Sellers) – the death of Rowena occurred peacefully on
January 17, 2024 at Gables Lodge in Amherst, Nova Scotia, with Paul,
Nancy, and Eddy by her side. She was the last surviving member of her
family.
Born in Amherst Head Nova Scotia, on
September 3, 1932. Daughter of the late Clifford Sellers and Lola
(Brooks, Sellers / Latimer).
Predeceased by her husband, Frank
Freeman Pipes and companion, Lloyd Greeno.
She is survived by her children, Paul
Wood of Amherst, Nancy (Pipes) Cameron-Hubbard (Benjamin) of North
Carolina, Wade Pipes (Ruth) of Amherst, Eddy Pipes (Christine) of
Hastings and step daughter Joyce (Hebb) Foster of Oregon.
Grandchildren Jonathan Cameron (Amanda) of Port Howe, Christopher Wood
and Stephanie Wood of Manitoba, Stephen Wood of Nunavut, Kaili (Pipes)
Robinson (Chris) of Amherst, Logan Pipes of Hastings. Step
grandchildren Holly Foster and Bruce Foster (Katie) of Oregon. Great
grandchildren Adam Cameron and Lily Cameron of Port Howe, Meika Jade
Salton-Wood of Manitoba. Step great grandchildren Sarah Foster of
Anchorage, Ashley Moran of Oregon, Wyatt Foster of Georgia, and four
step great great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins,
and her special longtime friends, Eldon and Shirley
Porter.
Beside her parents, husband, and
companion, she was predeceased by her brothers and their spouses,
Walter Sellers (Jen) of Ontario, and Vincent Sellers (Marg) of
Tatamagouche.
Rowena was a member of the United Church
of Canada and a former superintendent of Sunday School. She was a
member of the UCW of the former St. Paul’s United Church in
Northport. Prior work as an operator at the Cumberland Rural Telephone
Company, a clerk at the Bayview Co-op in Amherst Head, janitorial
services at the Northport Elementary School, and assisted in homecare
giving in Amherst and Northport areas. Member and treasurer of the
Sunrise Seniors Club, member of the Amherst Golden Years Society, and
was active in their bowling league.
She spent a lot of her life being a
homemaker and housekeeper for many families. She took pride in her
house always being spotless. Little Eddy and her family say “Rest
easy Mom, you have finished your housework.”
The family wishes to thank Nurse
Practitioner Cheryl Smith, the staff at White Birches Retirement
Residence and Gables Lodge for taking such great care of their
mother.
Arrangements are under the care and
supervision of the Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS
(902-667-8777).
No visitation by request. Celebration of
life will be held in the Cumberland Memorial Chapel, 70 Church Street,
Amherst, NS, on Monday, January 22,2024 at 2pm. Internment to take
place at a later date.
Family flowers only.
Donations to Hillside Cemetery, the
Alzheimer and Dementia Society, or the charity of your
choice.
