Obituary of Mary Margaret Patterson
We the family of Mary Margaret Patterson are saddened to announce her passing August 30, 2024 at the Sus Health Centre.
Born in Walkers Settlement on October 12, 1932; she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Chambers) Hawkes and wife of the late Albert Patterson.
Mary was the youngest in a family of nine children. She along with her mother and sisters would pick blueberries for a day and earn enough to buy a dress. Mary graduated from Sus Composite High School in 1949. She had to leave home and board in Sus for the last 2 years of school. She graduated from teachers’ college in 1951 and taught at Pleasant Ridge, Wards Creek, Turtle Creek, Berwick, Lower Millstream and Salisbury.
Besides teaching, she sold Avon, was a babysitter, homecare worker, caught chickens and above all a great mother and grandmother.
Mary will be deeply missed by her daughter, Nancy Millican (Allan); her grandchildren: Allan (Corrine), Greg (Annie), Michael (Chelsea), Lisa (Tim), Shawna (Darrin) and Stephanie; her great grandchildren: Lane, Emile, Romane, Renaud, Aurelie, Dale, Etta, Zeke and Stephen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 40 years, Albert; she is predeceased by her sons: Walter and Stephen; her brothers: Robert, Harry, Jim, Garnet, Roland and Murray; her sisters: Doris and Marjorie and by her sisters-in-law: Anne, Eurilla, Eileen, Dot and Margaret.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, NB (506-433-1176 from where visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00am with reception to follow.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Head of Millstream Union Cemetery, Sus Health Centre, Trinity Anglican Church or Donor’s Choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
The family would like to express a special thanks to Mary’s Homecare workers, the Staff of Primrose Cottage and the Staff of the Sus Health Centre. Their kindness, care and compassion will never be forgotten.
