Obituary of Lester Anderson
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lester Orville Anderson announce his passing at the Sus Health Centre on November 26, 2024 at the age of 77.
Born on October 17, 1947; he was the son of the late Clarence and Eleanor (Cannon) Anderson.
Lester was very active in the Boy Scouts. Holding the great honor of the Queen Scout Award and the wonderful memory of taking the boys to Expo ’67 in Montreal. He loved his work with the scouts and spoke often of his time with them.
He went to work at Anderson Auto Salvage in August of 1973 and never looked back. The yard was never just a job to him, he ate slept and breathed that place with a smile on his face. He never wanted to miss a single day at the shop. He was the ‘Master of the Alternator Rebuild’, The interchange book was something he seemed to commit to memory and every time a new edition would come out, you would find him brushing up on it. If there was something that he could recover from the yard for his family and friends, he would be proud as can be and that brain of his held human inventory of everything in the yard.
He didn’t have a negative bone in his body and his contagious smile and wonderful laugh showed that brightly. He also had a deep respect for the people he encountered who could speak different languages, all though he couldn’t and would find himself needing a translator.
Lester loved to help people, almost as much as he loved piling wood and bringing the mail in but nearly as much as he loved time spent with Dianne, his girls and his family. When the kids were growing up, it was adventures in fishing, trips to the amphitheater in Parlee Brook, Bowling twosomes and time spent at the camp. He had a deep love for his girls and grandchildren and was so very proud of each of them.
He was an avid bowler, and in his later years – he and Dianne become avid travellers. Trips to Disney, Sea World, Vegas, New York, the Hoover Dam, Daytona for NASCAR and his favorite of all Alaska came with so many memories, stories and laughter. They were a wonderful pair.
Lester never met a deal he didn’t like and was quite the haggler. If he could get something for a buck, he was as happy as could be and he loved to snag great little deals for his girls.
To know Lester was to love him, he was kind and funny and would help anyone with anything he could. He was proud of his family and his community and will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
He will live on in the hearts of his partner of 21 years, Dianne Dykeman; his daughters: Marla Anderson (Steven Christie) of Oak Hill, Sophina Anderson (Stewart Brooks) of Durham Bridge and Natasha Anderson (Talamage Graham) of Sus Corner; his bonus daughter, Cheryl Sinkler (Bryan); his grandchildren: Tawnni Solomon (Chad), Dakota Anderson, Ben Christie, Danni Graham and Nicholas Graham; his great grandchildren: Thayowyn Solomon and Carson Solomon; the mother of his children: Clara Anderson (Walter Steeves); his sisters-in-law: Dawn Bailey-Anderson, Pat Alexander, Almeda McKnight, Judy Carr and Brenda Fanjoy (Phillip) and his brother-in-law, Brian Dykeman (Marg); as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Ross Anderson and his niece, Natalie Anderson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, NB (506-433-1176). A gathering of family and friends will take place at the St. John’s United Church Center with times and dates to be announced.
Donations in memory of Lester may be made to a local charity of the donor’s choice.
