Obituary of Gerry Kyte
The passing of our beloved Gerry will leave a very deep hole in our hearts forever. It is with emense sadness we announce her peaceful passing surrounded by family, music, and love. On May 31, 2024 at the Dr. V.A Snow Centre, her bright light was dimmed but will never be extinguished.
Gerry was born on June 18, 1939, in Sus, NB – the second child to Allwyn and Sybil (Snider) Norrad.
After Gerry proudly joined the RCAF, while in Nova Scotia she married David Dunbar, and they had two children together: David and Faith. After his passing and being a young mother, she moved back to Sus.
Gerry took secretarial work after graduating from Business School in St. John. She loved every aspect of her ever-changing roles that she took on. Six years later she married the love of her life Elmer Proctor, of whom she was married for 36 years before his passing. Gerry and Elmer enjoyed many adventures together in business and in life. They soon grew their family with Bev and Kelly.
Gerry and Elmer were both lifetime members of The Royal Canadian Legion Sus Branch #20. Gerry was the secretary and Branch Manager for over 30 years and received the Meritorious Service Medal in 2005. Gerry continued her secretarial work for decades until her retirement. After retirement, Gerry continued to work for Kyte’s Well Drilling and several of his other projects until 2021.
Gerry’s love of music began at an early age. She had a voice and showmanship which gave so much pleasure and immense joy over the years. Gerry will be remembered for her accordion, piano, dancing and yodeling. She was the life of every party and had a gift of bringing people together with her music. Alongside her incredibly talented musical family she will be remembered for ever.
As a child Gerry loved her visits to Boiestown to spend time with her beloved Grandmother Norrad, family and friends. This desire to visit the Miramichi continued until her passing. Gerry was a vibrant bright light she had a gentle way of making everyone included and respected no matter the situation. Despite her humble beginnings Gerry was insistent on proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and manners, no matter where she was, she had no problems letting you know.
Gerry is survived by her children: David (Rhonda) Dunbar of Sus, Bev Proctor of Calgary and Kelly Hoffman of Saskatchewan; her grandchildren: Gina, Genelle, David, Olivia, Danielle, Nikki, Selena, Maria, Presley and Brett along with several adored great grandchildren and very special nieces and nephews; Her sisters: Ruby (Pat) McMackin of Sus and Nancy Norrad of Saint John; her sisters-in law: Ruth Norrad, Cathy Norrad and Pat Berry; as well as many adored cousins and her special Aunt Mary Norrad of Boiestown.
Along with her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her husbands: David Dunbar and Elmer Proctor; her daughter, Faith Marie Miller; her grandson, Jarrod Miller; her brothers: Bert Norrad, Paul (Shirley) Norrad, Jack Norrad, Ansel Norrad and Dale Norrad and by her sisters: Zona (Lloyd) Smith and Darlene (Carl) Baxter.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, NB (506-433-1176), from where a visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 from 6-8pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Sus Branch #20 will hold a tribute Monday Evening at 5:45pm. A Celebration of Gerry’s life will be held from St. Paul’s United Church on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:00am with Rev. Jenn Brown officiating.
