Florence Atwood McGrattan
1928-2024
Florence Atwood McGrattan passed away peacefully at the
Charlotte County Hospital on Monday, May 20, 2024. Florence was born
in Wilson’s Beach, Campobello, NB on December 3,
1928. She was the daughter of the late Atwood and Ruby
(Brown) Savage.
She is survived by her sons Stanley (Louise) of St. George NB
and Rod (Jack) of Charlottetown PEI, her grandchildren, Danny, Joel,
John and Darcy, many great grandchildren, nieces and
nephews.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Henry (Junior) and
siblings Stanley, Ethelbert (Ep), Vernon (Jiggs), Malcolm (Saul),
Joyce and Harriet.
Florence was a familiar face to many in the local area. Her
entire working career was serving the public in retail. From
McKay’s Grocery, Hanselpacker’s Red and White, St.
George Pharmacy and operating her own store on the L’Etete
Road, where she always met her customers with a smile.
Following retirement from Guardian Drug, Florence was an
active member in the Granite Town Seniors. Her passion for
Tuesday’s bowling trips with “the girls” was
something nobody dared interfere with. Watching her ball games with
the BlueJays was always a special time and everyone was aware to call
after the game was over. One thing she always treasured was special
occasions with family and she never missed sending a card or
present.
The family would like to express our deepest thanks to the
staff at the Campobello Lodge Nursing Home. Her last couple of years
were made so much better by the fantastic care she received. All her
days in St. George, she never stopped calling Campobello “down
home”. A special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Charlotte
County Hospital as well.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with
Florence’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A grave side
service will be held at the Wilson’s Beach Cemetery later
this summer. In her memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer
Society or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by
the family.
