Helen Bleakney
1927-2024
Helen Marjorie Bleakney (nee Price), of Salisbury, daughter
of the late Eldon and Annabelle (Lewis) Price died peacefully with
family by her side August 8, 2024.
She is survived by her loving husband Ross whom she
has been married to for 73 years, and her caring sons Dennis (Pam),
Moncton and David (Chriss) of Ottawa, her three beloved grandchildren
Jennifer (Ian), Waterloo, Ontario, Jonathan (Riverview) and Emma
(Ottawa). Helen took great joy in time spent with her great
grandchildren Auden and Isla of Waterloo, and in her friendship with
her former daughters-in-law Brenda (Moncton) and Catherine (Ottawa).
Helen is survived by her sisters, Elinor Crosthwaite, Salisbury,
Margaret Henry (Ivan) Hampton, NB, brother Eric of Ottawa and several
nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Lorne
(Ty), Boyd and Carl, and sister Doris Wortman.
Helen graduated from Salisbury High School and Provincial
Normal School in Fredericton. She became a teacher and taught for 24
years. Helen appreciated family gatherings, she loved playing cards
with friends and family, she liked to knit, she was curious and
enjoyed reading and travelling. She took pleasure in watching and
guessing the answers to one of her favourite programs Jeopardy. No
matter the setting time spent with friends and family was what she
enjoyed most. Her love of baking has been passed on to the next
generation and Nan’s cookie recipes are sure to bring smiles
to lips for years to come.
After her retirement Helen volunteered at the
Salisbury Elementary school which she enjoyed. She also helped out by
canvassing for various organizations. Helen was a member of the
Salisbury Baptist Church; she was a woman of faith and enjoyed singing
hymns. She was kind and eager to learn more about a given situation
whether in Canada or abroad and see where help may be needed. She was
generous of spirit and always ready to be of service to her family,
her friends and her community. She was loved. She will be greatly
missed.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the
remarkable and kind staff of the Albert Hospice, Moncton, for their
professional and caring help and to wonderful
neighbours.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the
Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106 (506-372-4800) on Monday,
August 12, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The service will be held in the chapel
Tuesday, August 13 at 12:30 pm with Rev. Dr. Terry Atkinson
officiating. A reception will follow in the parlour. Interment in Fair
Haven Memorial Gardens.
If desired, donations in memory of Helen to a Local Food Bank
or the Albert House Hospice would be appreciated by the
family.
