Susie Piercey Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Susie Alice Piercey announces her passing on Thursday, February 29. Susie passed at home surrounded by her family.
Her wishes were to pass at home and this was made possible due to the amazing care she received from her family doctor Jane Ashfield, Extra Mural nurse Krista, Mary Nelson who spent two years caring for Susie, and the love of her life Howard, who cared for her 24/7.
Susie leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Howard Piercey, and her three daughters; Sherry Miller (Ken), Peggy Brown (Geoff) and Janice Buchanan (Bear). She also leaves behind her six loving grandkids, Brenden, Matthew, Amber, Bradley, Madison and Taylor. As well as her only sibling, Mabel Keating. Susie’s late parents Jessie and Charles Smith were waiting for her when she arrived in heaven on Thursday.
Susie was born on a small island off Newfoundland, Port Elizabeth. She met her husband Howard Piercey while working in Norman’s Cove, Newfoundland and after getting married they made a home in Red Harbour, Newfoundland where they had their three children and started several businesses. Susie worked alongside Howard, running his electrical and contracting businesses, and then later running a small grocery store and gas station. In 1990, Susie and Howard moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland where they remained until 2012 when they moved to Saint John, New Brunswick to be closer to their children and grandkids. However, Susie’s heart always remained in Newfoundland and it is where her ashes will be spread this summer.
Susie and Howard were a true love story. You could not see one without the other. Still holding hands when out and about after decades of marriage. They both enjoyed the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and berry picking together. Susie was a lifelong Christian and she and Howard spent every evening reading scripture at bedtime. Susie loved her grandkids and was most happy when she was with them. She was also an avid baker and made the best homemade bread and date squares. She cared deeply for animals and in Susie’s final years, she was happy to rescue three cats that stayed next to her in her last days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506) 646-2424. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 3 at 10am for
Susie. Remembrances made to the Salvation Army or Red Head Strays would be appreciated.
