Mavis Flecknell Obituary
It is with sadness but appreciation for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Mavis Dorn (Spence) Flecknell at her residence in Tucker Hall at Shannex on April 25, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Mavis was born in Sackville, NB, on March 12, 1936, to the late Chesley and Vivian (Snowdon) Spence and was the loving wife of 53 years to her late husband, James Matthew Flecknell.
Over her years she held many careers. She and her husband Matt enjoyed planting and operating a greenhouse for many years together, she was President of the Ladies Auxiliary and a Life Member of Jervis Bay Memorial Legion #53, involved in weekly BINGO, enjoyed playing darts for her Legion dart team and made many lifelong friendships along the way.
Her quiet demeanor concealed a fiery spirit that lit up our lives. Through the years, her gentle yet determined nature was a source of inspiration, teaching us the power of resilience and strength. Sharing stories of her life or simply enjoying the company of her loved ones, it was her sassy charm, quick wit and clever comebacks that truly set her apart and made her one of a kind.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of the staff of Tucker Hall for their compassionate care and dedicated attention.
Mavis is survived by her sons, David (Patti) and Charles; daughter, Nora (Chris) and daughter-in-law Christine; cherished grandmother to Oliver (Amanda), Jill (Dale), Meaghan (Jeff), Michael (Tiffany), Samantha (Ronnie), Caitlin, Colin, and Matthew; great grandchildren Cole, Miles, Dahlia, Leo, Jane, Hannah, Allison, Owen, Benjamin, and Haley; Sister-in-laws Anne Melanson and Barbara Flecknell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Joseph and her grandson, Christopher.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). In keeping with Mavis’ wishes, no visitation will take place. A funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 2pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may send a memorial donation in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice which would be appreciated by her family.
