Loreen Ellingwood Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Loreen Mae (Bradley) Ellingwood announces her passing, which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on Monday, February 26th, 2024. Born on October 28th, 1940, in Saint John, she is the daughter of the late Fred and Laura (Goddard) Bradley. Loreen worked as a Secretary for J.M & C.W Hope Grant Insurance for 55 years. She was a member of Friends of Hospice and volunteered at the Hospice Shoppe for over 10 years. She was also a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and Ladies Probus.
As a loving grandmother, she was immensely proud of her grandchildren and all their accomplishments. As the matriarch of the family, and a good friend to many, she always looked forward to getting together to celebrate life’s milestones.
As her time with us was drawing towards a close, and upon reflection, the words … true lady, kind, loving, and unselfish were frequently spoken. Mom always put others first, regardless, if you were family, a friend or a stranger. If you were in need, she would be there to help you. She was like a second mother to so many. Our hearts ache but we take comfort in knowing that Mom is resting comfortably in the arms of her Lord.
Loreen is survived by her sons Derek Ellingwood (Kim) of Quispamsis, Bradley Ellingwood (Gina Grover) of Calgary; siblings Patricia Nilsson of Saint John, Fred Bradley (Patsy) of Quispamsis, Danny Bradley (Donalda) of Rothesay, Gloria Duguay (Mike) of Saint John, Debbie Griffin (Pat) of Titusville; grandchildren Celina Ellingwood (Sam), Nicholas Ellingwood, Justin Ellingwood; step-grandchildren Chelsea Anaka (Curtis), Dayna Ouellette (Devon) and families; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, Loreen was predeceased by her husband Albert William and sister Donna Hatfield.
The family would like to acknowledge the care provided by Dr. Griffin, Dr. Carpartier, the staff of the Emergency Room, Internal Medicine 4CN, Family Medicine 5CN and Palliative Care 3BN units at the Saint John Regional Hospital along with the exceptional care provided at Bobby’s Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, February 29th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Friday, March 1st at 10 a.m. An interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Loreen may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or to Cornerstone Baptist Church.
