Laura “Laurie” Hayward Obituary
It is with a very Deep Sadness that we have to announce the passing of Laura “Laurie” Irene Hayward, which occurred on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, unexpectedly at her home in Saint John, NB.
Laurie was born on Jan. 27, 1976 (48 yrs old), in Saint John, NB. She was the only daughter of Betty Hayward, & her father, Ken Hayward & stepmom Theresa Hayward.
Laurie was a very kind, compassionate & very caring person throughout her whole life, always pitching in to help others in need, and always giving of herself. She had spent a good chunk of her life at the IWK hospital in Halifax where she had 2 open heart surgeries to fix her heart. Her latest trip to Halifax was to install a pacemaker.
Laurie worked many years as an office manager in the industrial scaffolding industry for Safeway, & then went to her current position at Skyway, also a scaffolding company. Her work, and her work family meant the world to her.
Laurie also helped out her mom with the wedding décor business, helping to set up chair covers & sashes, arranging centerpieces on tables, along with a lot of other fun details. She has been doing that for many, many years.
Laurie was also a volunteer patient with Dalhousie Medicine, & was involved with helping to train future doctors in NB. This was her passion & her major love, to pay it forward with doctors to hear and understand her heart condition, so they could in turn help people in the future. Her other dream was to establish a SCHOLARSHIP for future doctors in NB which she finally was able to set up this year.
Laurie was many things to many people. She will be greatly missed by so many.
Laurie leaves behind her MOM (her best friend). Her LOVES, Randy, Jeanne & Wayne, Mark, Sara, Syd, Becky, Margo, Deb, Angela, Shawn, Ashley, Natalie, & so many more of her friends were her Family. She also leaves behind many aunts & uncles, & cousins.
She has been predeceased by both sets of grandparents Marg & Edgar Wheelock & Emm & Charlie Hayward. Also, her cats – Simba Doodle & adopted kitty Shaggydo.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (506-646-2424), there will be a visitation on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6 PM – 8 PM. A Celebration of Laurie’s Life will be held the next day, Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 9:30 AM in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery following the service. Remembrances to the Laurie Hayward Medical Education Scholarship would be appreciated by her family.
