John Bangura Obituary
With his two children by his side, John Santigie Bangura passed away on December 26th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital located in Saint John, New Brunswick. Born on October 10th, 1966, of Makump Village, Freetown, Sierra Leone. He was one of the sons of the late Chief Pa Santigie Bangura, and older brother of the late Santigie Bangura. John leaves his beloved mother Ya Ramatu Kamara, his aunty from the mother’s side Kadiatu Sillah, his son John JR. Bangura, his daughter Caroline Ramatu Bangura, his uncle Henry Bangura, Bally Tombo Bangura, Aunty Iye Bangura, brothers from the same father: Kobba, Henry, Kabia, Momodu, Fancis, Mamodu, and Abu Bangura. His sisters from the same father: Nafat, Kadia, Yainkain, Ramatu, Kadiafu, and Posseh Bangura. The children of his late younger brother: Isatu, Aminata, Santigie, Isatu, and Henry Bangura.
John was well-known for his kindness, altruism, intricate storytelling, will and strength. In 1993, during the Soviet Union in Chișinău, Moldova, he attended the Moldova State University. John obtained a master’s degree in economics, majoring in Finance and Credit. This is around the same time he met the mother of his kids Galina Sirbu, prior to immigrating to Canada. In Canada, he studied at New Brunswick Community College for Business Administration.
John had a love for poetry, playwriting, and storytelling. He could stand for hours reenacting past memories and experiences, especially from his travels. Throughout his early life he travelled through Europe which heavily shaped who he was. John contributed to building a school in Makump, Sierra Leone, called Saint Mary’s Junior Secondary School. He was a leader, and a person that many relied on. He was selfless by nature, quiet, reserved, a very religious man, and respected by many. The most important thing to him was family. May his soul rest in heavenly peace.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint john, NB (506-646-2424). Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, at 11:00am in the Chapel.
