Dr. William Weaver Obituary
After many years of a courageous battle with Parkinson’s, the family of Dr. William Henry Weaver, a devoted husband and father, is saddened to announce his peaceful passing on April 1, 2024, at Turnbull Nursing Home.
Born on August 8, 1946, in Minto, New Brunswick, Bill was the son of the late Barton and Lola Weaver. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda (Maxwell); daughter, Angela (Travis) Jacobson of Banff, Alberta; sons, Mark, Darren (Charlotte), and Adam of Saint John; and sister, Dixie (Michael) Gower of Cumberland Bay. Bill was a proud Grampy to Sydney and Lucas Jacobson and a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Merilyn Weaver. Bill held a deep affection for his family, who meant the world to him.
After graduating from Chipman High School, Bill earned his Bachelor of Science and DDS degrees from Dalhousie University. In 1975, he began his dental practice in Chipman before relocating to Saint John, serving his community for over three decades. Bill was a former president of the Saint John Dental Society and remained an active member until his retirement in 2006. Despite illness forcing his retirement, he fondly recalled his interactions with patients, retaining their names even as he developed dementia over the last few years.
Bill found joy at his Wickham, N.B. cottage, whether maintaining and renovating his “happy place,” hosting themed birthday parties for family and friends, or enjoying the serenity of watching boats pass on the river. He had a green thumb, eagerly awaiting spring to tend to his gardens with his constant canine companion, and enjoying outdoor activities such as camping and walking. Bill was a devoted Lion member for 50 years, contributing tirelessly to the Chipman and Kennebecasis Lions Clubs. His dedication to community service earned him the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship award from Lions International. He was also an engaged member of the Saint John Parkinson’s group, a diligent volunteer at King’s Valley Meals on Wheels, and was recognized with a Town of Quispamsis Volunteer Appreciation award.
A faithful member of King’s (Valley) Church for over four decades, Bill served as Treasurer and board member in his early years. He devoted much of his time to the needs of the church, anything from odd jobs, to backstage management for the public holiday productions, to nurturing infants in the church nursery, where he was a master “baby whisperer.” He had a deep love for southern gospel music and for God. Bill’s faith was a constant from an early age, and prayer was a source of comfort to him until the day he passed from this world to his heavenly home.
Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of the staff at Turnbull Home for their unwavering love, compassion, and care shown to Bill and to us during his final months. We always felt at home there, and they made the journey lighter for us in every possible way.
A Celebration of Life will be held at King’s Church, 332 Hampton Rd, Quispamsis, NB E2E 4S9, on April 19, 2024, with visitation from 12:30-2 p.m. and the service at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, should you wish to honor Bill’s memory, donations may be made to Turnbull Nursing Home, Parkinson’s Saint John Chapter, or a charity of choice.
