Lavigne, Donna Marie
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Donna Marie Lavigne on October 17, 2023, at the age of 74. Born to Donald and Gertrude Foote, and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, she leaves behind a legacy of commitment, both in education and her dedication to family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years James “Jim” Lavigne and her loving children Lori (Angelo), Jeffrey (Kerry), Jason, Ryan (Krystal), Christopher (Robyn), along with her ten cherished grandchildren – Tenley, Hayden, Jackson, Harper, Jordan, Zachary, Olivia, Mikayla, Jessie and Craig. She is also remembered by her brothers Michael & Joseph (Murratte) and her dear friend Daphne.
Donna’s lifelong devotion to education began as a teacher at St. Joseph’s and Prince Charles Elementary Schools, where she helped shape the minds of countless students for over 35 years. Even in retirement, she wanted to serve the community and found herself enjoying a position in menswear at Sears for several years.
Beyond her professional career, Donna was a dedicated and involved parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and its community. Her selfless service included scheduling lectors and eucharistic ministers, directing the catechism program and actively participating in the Lay Formation Program, as well as various other boards and committees.
Donna never missed bingo each week at the HOPE Centre, where her enthusiasm was infectious.
She would also look forward to spending as much time as possible each summer at the camp on Kennebecasis Island surrounded by extended family and friends.
However, the true heartbeat of Donna’s life was her family, particularly her beloved grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home (230 Westmorland Road). Visitation hours will be held on Monday, 23 October from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day (Tuesday, 24 October) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (4347 Loch Lomond Road) at 11am. A reception next door at the HOPE Centre will follow before interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In memory of Donna, contributions can be made to the HOPE Centre, a cause dear to her heart, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Donna’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and selflessness. Her profound impact on the lives she touched, especially her grandchildren, will be a cherished memory for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
