Obituary of Carol Joan Rankin
It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Carol Joan (Fletcher) Rankin on February 20th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family by her side. She was 82 years old, born in Saint John, New Brunswick on December 14, 1941, to the late Eldon L Fletcher and Elsie M (Day) Fletcher and stepdaughter to Elsie B (Bennett) Fletcher.
She is survived by her sons: Donald (Michele) and John (Kim); her beloved grandchildren: Samantha, Melody (Dave), Colin, Joshua, Alex and Vicki; her great grandchildren: Vada and Declan; her sister, Deanna McAllister; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carol was predeceased by her parents; her beloved son, Mark; precious infant grandson, James; and her brother: Lawrence.
Carol Graduated SJHS in 1959 and Teachers College in 1960. After teaching in Saint John, she married and moved to Victoria, BC. On moving back to New Brunswick, she worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Federal Income Tax Dept. Carol enjoyed singing in choirs, with her husband Gordie and later with her family. She enjoyed music and played several instruments including piano and fiddle. She played bass with the “Get Togethers” at different venues including the KBM, Thirty Up Club and several of the Legions. She taught kindergarten in Westfield and retired from the Eddie Bauer Customer Service call center. Carol’s greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Westfield United Church,133 Nerepis Road, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint John High School Centennial Scholarship Fund for the Mark Rankin Memorial Award would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
