Carol Morrisey Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Carol Gardiner (Coates) Morrisey announce her passing, which occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Monday, February 5th, 2024. Born on July 30th, 1934, in Amherst, NS, she is the daughter of the late Haley and Ethel (Belliveau) Coates. Carol graduated from Nursing School in Amherst, NS in 1955. During this time she met the love of her life, Bill Morrisey, who she married in 1957 and remained truly devoted to for over 60 years. Mom excelled at her career, rising quickly in the nursing ranks. For many years she was member of the hospital administration team at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She also taught nursing at the Saint John school of nursing and transitioned to work for an oral surgeon and then as supervisor at Loch Lomond Villa until she retired in 1993. She was a former member of the Retired Nursing Association, an Aquatic Time Stopper member and a volunteer for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Mom found peace, friendship, and was a key support figure in the Saint John Al-Anon group. Mom loved to read, spend time with her children and grand children, bake, and daily crossword puzzles. Mom loved a good joke, particularly when recounted by Dad, and loved getting together with her sisters. We can still hear the laughter. She survived raising 5 very independent daughters whom she taught the value of devotion to loved ones, the importance of education, and set a strong example of how to blend home life and career. Mom’s quiet reserve, strength and love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mom is survived by her daughters; Mary MacDonald (Allie) of Antigonish, NS, Heather Morrisey of Saint John, NB, Ann Berry (Danny) of Red Deer, AB, Cheryl Morrisey-Lewis (Mike) of Saint John, NB, Gail Burke (David) of Chester, NS; sister Madeline Comeau (Edward) of Amherst, NS; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Bill, brothers Ronald and Ernest (Owen Sound, ON); sisters Hala (Brooks AB), Irma (Atlanta, GA), and Sharon (White Rock, BC). Special thanks to her tenant Shawn, and neighbours Harold and Julie who were always there for her.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday, February 11th from 3 to 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Tuesday, February 13th at 10 a.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Carol may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Kidney Foundation.
