Callie Cobham Obituary
COBHAM, CALLIE DAWN – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Callie Dawn Cobham, announces her passing on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, New Brunswick, at the age of 64. The family would like to thank the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology Department and Bobby’s Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Callie during her courageous, private battle with cancer.
Callie was adopted by the late Walter and Ruth (Allan) Harrington. Callie is predeceased by her adoptive siblings Ona Marie Vessey and Wayne Harrington, brothers-in-law Francis Vessey and Jack Hamilton, as well as her birth father, Sonny London, and sister, Leanne. Callie married the love of her life, Gordon, on September 14, 1991, and their only son Matthew can truly be described as their pride and joy. Callie was known for her contagious laughter and positive, “get things done” attitude. She was an active listener, focusing on other people’s problems, rather than her own, and was a trusted confidant to her many friends and family.
Callie worked for over four decades in administration at the Port of Saint John Employer’s Association, Furncan Marine, and Maritime Data. She was truly dedicated in her work, earning her the respect of hundreds of Port management and union employees. During her long career, Callie enjoyed especially close working relationships with her two managers, Don Scott and Jen Brun.
To call Callie an “active church member” would be an understatement. Through her many years of faithful service at Hillcrest Church, Callie served as Director of Music, Deacon, Worship Leader, Choir Member, Youth Leader, and any other role she was asked to fill. Callie’s love of music began at a young age in the church junior choir. She blossomed into a sought-after soloist who willingly shared her beautiful soprano voice in many church productions, weddings, and special events.
Callie spent her leisure time travelling with family and friends, but her special place was her cottage. She formed many friendships with fellow cottagers over her 34 years spent at Round Lake, and enjoyed tending to her bushes and flowers, watching the wildlife, and loved “midnight cruises” with Gordon.
In addition to her husband Gordon and son Matthew, Callie is survived by her sister-in-law Susan Hamilton, brothers-in-law Carl and Ryan Cobham, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including her special niece and nephew, Tiffany Hamilton and Lowell (Kimberley) Vessey. Callie is also survived by her birth mother, Audrey London, and sisters Almeda, Julie, Lori and Linda.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home. Visitation and a service celebrating Callie’s life will be hosted by Hillcrest Church, 476 Lancaster Ave., Saint John NB. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1 st from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 2 nd at 10:00 AM, with interment to follow immediately after at Greenwood Cemetery on Sand Cove Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hillcrest Church Soul Food Ministry or Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated. A memory box will be made available at the church for guests to share written memories of Callie with the family. Online condolences can be made at FundyFuneralHome.com.
