Obituary
After a long and active life, our mother, Anne Elizabeth Kingsley, passed away peacefully on October 22nd, 2023, at the age of 91, after a brief illness. Born in her grandmother’s home on Douglas Avenue, Saint John, in 1932, she was the eldest daughter of Percival and Hortense (Maher) Streeter’s six children. Anne was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Anne attended St. Vincent’s High School in Saint John, the College of the Sacred Heart outside of Boston, and Mt. St. Vincent University in Halifax.
In 1953, Anne met her first husband, John Kearney. They married, had 6 children, and lived in Rothesay. Anne and her children moved to Philadelphia in 1972 after marrying her second husband, Bob Kingsley. With his 3 children, they formed a blended family of nine children. After Bob retired in 1986, they relocated to the Streeter family home in Rothesay. They were happily married for over 25 years until his death in 1997. For many years, Anne was a member of the Rothesay Tennis Club and Riverside Country Club. Anne also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and other charities. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, gardening, golfing, bridge, tennis, kayaking, xc skiing and skating on the river. Most of all she enjoyed walking through the community and seeing her neighbours; she was interested in everything and everyone. Anne was also an enthusiastic traveller delighting in trips with family and friends all over the globe. Anne will be remembered for her kind and welcoming nature and for hosting many weddings and family gatherings at her beautiful home on the Kennebecasis River. She was a resilient woman who never dwelled on life’s slings and arrows often stating, “I’m so lucky!”
Anne is predeceased by husband Robert A. Kingsley Jr., her grand-daughter Jennifer Kingsley, her two brothers, Joseph Streeter, Richard Streeter, her sister Cynthia Keddy, her sister-in-law Connie Streeter, her niece Sarah Streeter, nephew, Tim Keddy, and ex-husband John M. Kearney.
Anne is survived by 9 children: Mike Kearney (Lynne), John Kearney (Lynn), Patricia Kearney (Dean), Joan Kearney, Mary McCue (Jeff), Cynthia Dunlap (Scott) Robert Kingsley (Sally), Michael Kingsley, Diana Kingsley (Matthew), 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Jim Streeter and David Streeter (Lynda), Nancy Streeter (sister -in law) and Judy Streeter (sister- in law), and many nieces and nephews.
The Kingsley/ Kearney family would like to thank many friends, neighbours, and parishioners for their support and kindness over the years and the staff in the palliative care unit in Saint John Regional Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home in Saint John. In keeping with Anne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on November 3rd at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay. A reception will follow at Riverside Country Club from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.
Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society of NB and the Romero House would be appreciated by the family. Please have flowers delivered to the Riverside Country Club.
