Obituary of Allan Follis Gillis
It is with profound sadness and heartbreak the family of Allan F. Gillis announce his passing on June 29, 2024, surrounded by family at Bobby’s Hospice. Allan was born in St. Stephen, raised in Bocabec, son of the late Harry and Maretta (Cunningham) Gillis.
Allan was a truck driver, working for Imperial Oil, North American Van Lines, and most recently, RST Industries, retiring in 2001 due to a work injury. After retirement, he worked delivering cars for Kia. His main achievement, of which he was so proud, was cooking his family the driest squash for family get-togethers. Allan also liked to play Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles on the computer, and woodworking.
Allan is survived by his loving partner and best friend, Beverley Ann (McLellan) Penny; daughter, Kelly Gillis Arsenault (Todd); grandson, Gregory Arsenault (Jessica); granddaughter, Katie Arsenault; sister, Grace Marlein (Louis) in Ontario. He is also survived by Beverley’s step-sons: Edmund Penny, Bill Penny, and Rick Penny; and step-daughters, Shirley Lyons and Debby Stewart. He was predeceased by Beverley’s step-son, Ronald Penny.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers: Mel, Joe, Phill, and his twin brother, Ivan; sisters: Jean, Elaine, Olive, Vera, Charlotte, and Miriam. He was also predeceased by his precious fur babies, his constant shadows, Tigger and Mackenzie.
Sincere and heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Dr. Mackin, Dr. O’Brien, Dr. Love, and the staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice for the excellent care and support for Allan and his family.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), where visitation will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 2 to 8 pm.
