It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Dorothy Ivy Thomas, age 99, of
Sackville. Dorothy passed away peacefully on Monday,
November 11, 2024 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Godstone England, she was a
daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Braden) Hawes.
A war bride, she met her husband Arnold
during World War II in England. In 1946 she arrived in
Canada with a young child in tow after a grueling trip across the
ocean. This spoke to her incredibly quiet strength and
resilience. After raising her children to an independent age
she set out to work; first in a bakery, then a few house cleaning
jobs. Her dream job came when she met another young couple
from England and became a nanny to their children who lovingly
referred to her as Tosh.
Dorothy was most happy when she was
surrounded by her family for whom she provided and cared for always
ahead of her own needs. For that she was incredibly loved
and respected. She leaves behind a huge void in the lives of
her children, grandchildren and those that knew her.
She will be dearly missed by daughters,
Elizabeth (Larry) Beal, Midgic, NB and Shelley (Brian) Mitton,
Sackville; daughter in law Marilyn Thomas, Oshawa, ON; 7
grandchildren, many great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband
George Arnold; sons Arnold, Ronald, Robert and Trevor; daughter in law
Gwen Thomas; grandsons Dwayne Thomas and Shawn Mitton. The
last surviving member of her immediate family, she was also
predeceased by siblings Edward Hawes, May Jakubovskis and Joyce
Dawson.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge
Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) where an afternoon visitation will
take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 1 pm until 3
pm. A private burial will take place in the Point de Bute
Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wall
for her care and compassion to the family, and the nurses and staff at
the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Thanks also to the Extra
Mural and Molly Legere for their kind services
