Christopher Graham Chambers, age 72, passed peacefully
with his family and friends by his side at the Sackville Memorial
Hospital on August 3rd, 2024.
Born in Sackville on New
Year’s Eve in 1951, his mother was the best dressed
mom-to-be in her fanciest party dress (word is that she was none too
impressed to have to miss that party, but baby Chris refused to
wait).
Chris was the son of the late George
and Jean (Maxwell) Chambers. Chris is survived by his brother David
Chambers (late Nancy), as well as their children Anne and Robert
Chambers and their families.
Chris was a kindhearted, soft-spoken
partner to his long-time love, Donna Fillmore. Being ever careful with
his words and deeds, Chris was especially so with Donna’s
heart. He enjoyed traveling with her, supporting her ambitions and
interests, and living everyday life together with
her.
With Donna came her two sons, Shannon
and Jordan. Chris was lucky to get a package deal! Including
Shannon’s wife, Danielle, and their two girls Olivia and
Sophie, and Jordan’s partner, Brit.
Chris was a gentle and devoted father
to Matt Wiley and Keltie Perritt. He started his journey into
parenthood with Janet Wiley (now Little) when they were just babies
themselves. Some of Matt and Kel’s earliest memories involve Chris
playing guitar so sweetly for them, and being at their
grandparents’ Amherst Shore cottage with him. Over the
years, he became their best friend. He always made time to listen
carefully and offer advice without judgement. Usually it would sound
something like, “worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair, it
gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere”. His kids
loved him beyond measure. He was a really great dad.
When he received the big promotion to
proud Papa, Chris was over the moon. He was always happy to hear about
or spend time with his grandkids, Cassidy, and Nathan Wiley, and
Maxwell, Isla and Ayda Perritt. He was the first to congratulate them
on their achievements, big or small; from getting good (or even just
ok) grades, to almost every hockey goal (and almost every save) and
for just being themselves. To say his grandchildren will miss him is
an epic understatement.
One thing you may not know is that
Chris was into vintage pieces… well not really, but he did
collect a number of lifelong friends who stayed close since they were
young. Dad’s friends meant the world to him, whether they
were back in the day, going fishing, playing in a jug band, or more
recently playing pool and snooker. You know who you
are.
Chris inherited a passion for golf
that seems to have skipped at least one generation. He could be found
many summer days walking the local golf course seemingly endlessly
until dark… sometimes grumbling, but mostly enjoying
himself.
Chris worked for many years away from
home. He was a Field Heat Treatment Technician. He would set up and
perform controlled heat treating to offset the high temperature
effects of welding. He had worked for years doing back shifts, and 30
hour shifts; the man was dedicated. Later he became a consultant in
the same energy business. Or as Donna would say, ‘He does
X’s and O’s for a living’ because his
diagrams were covered in X’s and
O’s.
Chris was a kind man, a steadfast
partner, a warmhearted dad, the most proud Papa, and a true-blue
friend ’til the end.
Arrangements are under the care and
supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB
(506-364-1300). An afternoon of remembrance will be held from the
funeral home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 2-4 pm with special
words to be mentioned by family and friends at 3 pm. All are welcome
to come together to honour Chris and sharing
memories.
Chris was fond of his pets, including
numerous cats, dogs, and horses. Donations in his memory may be made
to the LA Animal Shelter.
Sharing of memories and condolences
may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook page.
It was difficult to have to start
writing this, and even more so to end it. So I’ll sign off
the way Dad always did … “Love ya! Bye for
now.”
