It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steve
Long of Riverview, NB at The Moncton Hospital surrounded by his loving
family on December 27, 2023. Born in Saint John, he was the son of
Arthur and the late Carol (Gates) Long.
Steve grew up in Hampton, NB and graduated from KV High
School. He then went to the NBCC Saint John campus and received his
Millwright certification. Steve loved his work, and this showed in
everything he did; he was always working, fixing a car, completing a
house renovation, or simply making something for enjoyment –
a true Jack of all trades. Shortly after college he left NB and worked
a few years in Timmins, Ontario at Kidd Creek Mines and later moved
back to NB, where he decided to settle in Riverview and there he
raised his two daughters. He worked for many years at
Norampac Inc here in Moncton, NB. He finished his career self employed
and having a blast being his own boss, travelling all over the USA and
different parts of the Maritimes.
Steve loved life all the way to the end. He volunteered for
many years at the Moncton YMCA teaching cycle fit. He was a brilliant
musician, he wrote music, played music and recorded several records
with (Bruised Orange) and solo work as (Storm Windows). Family
gatherings were filled with Dad playing the guitar and the entire
family singing along. Steve was a part of the annual MS fundraiser
here in Moncton for over 10 years and never shied away from so
generously offering his musical talents to different fundraisers in
the area. Above all Steve was an amazing Father and Grand
Father – He loved his family with all of his heart and his
memory will live on always in his daughters and
grandchildren.
He will be missed forever by his father Arthur Long of
Hampton, loving daughters Toni (Martin) Giermindl of Riverview and
Jamie (Warren) Long of Rothesay, his sister Nancy (Lloyd) Sherwood of
Fairfeild, niece Jocelyn (Josh) Malley of Hampton, and nephew Justin
(Lauren) Sherwood of Calgary. His grandchildren who held a special
place in his heart Kurt, Joli, Atticus, and Astrid. Steve was
predeceased by his mother Carol Long (early December 2023) and
grandparents Gladys and Ralph Gates, Viola and Lloyd Long (whom he
remembered often and missed dearly).
His family will receive friends and relatives at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd,
Riverview (869-2007) on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 6-8pm. A service
celebrating his life will take place at the funeral home on
Wednesday the 3rd at 11am with the Venerable Brent Ham
presiding. Interment will take place in Midland Cemetery at a later
date. For those unable to attend, the service will be
live-streamed and recorded.
Donations made to www.thedemocracyfund.ca/
in his memory would be appreciated.
