Troy Akerley, 54, of Dieppe, passed away on Monday July 8,
2024 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. Born in
Edmundston, he was the son of Doris (Maude) Akerley and the late
Gerald “Butch” Akerley.
We celebrate the life of Troy—a man who inspired
all who knew him. Troy was an exceptional human being who embodied
kindness, intelligence, humour, and unwavering optimism. His
dedication to his family and community made him special to so
many.
Troy’s legacy of giving back was remarkable. He volunteered
for many organizations including co-founding 100 Men Who Care, and his
commitment extended far beyond local borders as he participated in
nearly 10 humanitarian missions across Brazil, Africa, and Haiti.
Troy’s actions reflected his belief that “to whom much has been
given, much is expected in return.”
His adventurous spirit knew no bounds. From traveling abroad,
sailing seas, training for marathons, and teaching yoga, he seized
every moment. His joy in life was evident in the time he spent with
his beloved daughters, dog, friends, and family.
Serving as a UN peacekeeper in Haiti, his dream job, Troy
never faltered in his quest for achieving lofty goals. Through
incredibly difficult times, his bravery and perseverance were nothing
short of uplifting.
Troy’s life was a testament to living fully, loving deeply,
and giving generously. Today, we celebrate his remarkable life and the
indelible mark he left on our hearts. Thank you, Troy, for being a
shining example of strength, compassion, and unwavering spirit. Your
light will continue to shine in each and every one of
us.
He is survived by two daughters: Shanel Akerley
(Sébastien Goiziou) and Gabriele Akerley both living in
Greater Moncton; five siblings: Sharon Akerley and Brenda Akerley both
living in Vancouver, Tammy Akerley-Cyr (François Cyr)
living in Lincoln, Kim Akerley living in Fredericton, and Kevin
Akerley living in Grand-Falls; his precious dog, Bella; as well as his
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Troy’s Celebration of Life will take place Sunday,
July 14, at the Moncton Wesleyan Church (in the Life Centre) located
at 945 St. George Boulevard. Visitations will start at 2 pm, followed
by the celebration ceremony at 3 pm, and all are welcome to
attend.
In memory of Troy, in lieu of flowers, a contribution to the
ALS Therapy Development Institute (www.als.net/donate/?soc=blog707)
or the People for Animal Wellbeing (Donate
