Sister Marie-Thérèse Arsenault, in
religion Sister Blandine Maria, f.j., of Canterbury Hall, Riverview,
New Brunswick, passed away on January 7, 2024, at the Dr.
Georges-L.-Dumont UHC in Moncton. She was 99 years old, and
in the 76th year with the congregation of Les Filles de
Jésus. Born in Grand-Étang, Cape
Breton, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Olive
(Broussard) Arsenault.
Besides her religious family, she is survived by many nieces,
nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was the last surviving
member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, Marie-Thérèse was
predeceased by two sisters: Germaine and Blandine; a brother, Willie
Joe; two half-sisters: Béatrice and Lucie Anne; as well as
two half-brothers: Lazare and Séverin.
Marie-Thérèse was a much-appreciated
teacher during her 24 years in NS. After training in
nursing, she worked with the sick, especially the elderly, at Foyer
Père Fiset in Chéticamp, then at MacGillivray
Guest Home in Sydney, NS. In 2009, after many years of
volunteer work, she retired to Canterbury Hall, Riverview,
NB. There she continued her mission of being close to
people. Sr. Marie Thérèse left her
mark on all those she came into contact with during her long life,
through her hospitality, generosity and compassion.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff
at Canterbury Hall for the excellent care they provided to
Marie-Thérèse during the 14 years she lived
there.
The funeral service will be celebrated at Frenette Funeral
and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on
Thursday January 11 at 10 am. Visiting hours are Thursday from 9 am
until time of funeral. The service will be streamed live; to view the
funeral, go to her obituary on the Frenette Website. Interment will be
at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery in Dieppe.
