Shirley Kinnie Obituary
Shirley Catherine Kinnie of Moncton passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years old in The Moncton Hospital on Monday, February 19, 2024. Born in Ludlow NB, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mary (Leighton) Pond. As well, the longtime wife of Henry William Kinnie of Riverside Albert.
At a young age, Shirley obtained her teaching certificate and taught in a one room school house in Waterside, NB. During this time she met her husband Henry Kinnie. Shirley continued to work as a telephone operator before having a long time career working at T. Eaton Co. from which she retired after 25 years of service. Shirley worked tirelessly to always provide for her family, often caring for her siblings when growing up and ensuring they had what they needed. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church where she served in various capacities. In her early years she enjoyed folk art, knitting, and travelling with her husband across America, Mexico and Europe; she loved to listen to music, especially fiddling. Shirley was an instrumental part of her grandchildren’s lives where she cared for them often while their parents worked. She shared some of her many talents, especially her love for baking with them. Her amazing pies, cookies, and date squares were a staple at many family gatherings. Shirley’s great grandchildren were fortunate enough to know her and always brought a bright smile to her face.
Married 69 years she will be sadly missed by her husband Henry, children, Karen Balser (Douglas) and Dale Kinnie (Marie-Stella); grandchildren, Brittany (Matthew) and Adam (Chelsey); great grandchildren, Hollis and Aletta; sisters, Lillian and Suzanne (Ivan); brother, John (Arlene); sister-in-law, Josie; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Willard and James Pond.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes there will be no visitation hours or funeral service. Interment will take place at Hopewell Hill Cemetery in the spring.
Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) in care of arrangements.
