Shirley Berry Obituary
Shirley R. Berry, aged 90, gently departed from this world on Friday, April 19, 2024, at The Moncton Hospital, surrounded by the comforting presence of her youngest daughter and daughter-in-law. Hailing from North Esk Boom, NB, Shirley was the dearly loved daughter of the late Morrison and Robina (Hardie) Jordan. Their legacy of compassion and strength was a constant source of guidance throughout Shirley’s journey in life.
Shirley’s career as a stenographer was marked by diligent work ethic and meticulous attention to detail. However, it was her unwavering faith and commitment to Highfield Baptist Church that truly defined her. As a devoted member, Shirley’s compassion and spiritual support touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader, often losing herself in the pages of a good book. Gathering with friends for game nights was a cherished pastime, filled with laughter and friendly competition. Shirley also enjoyed leisurely walks, finding solace in the beauty of nature. And her knack for knitting brought her quiet satisfaction, each stitch a small but meaningful act of creation.
Shirley had a sweet tooth for chocolate, and enjoying a piece of her favorite treat always brought a smile to her face. When she wasn’t working or involved with the church, you could often find her in her garden on White Oak Terrace. She took pride in tending to her gardens, nurturing them to bloom beautifully and fill the space with vibrant colors. It was a simple pleasure that brought her a sense of peace and fulfillment.
Above all else, Shirley treasured the moments spent with her family and closest friends. Whether gathered around the dinner table sharing stories and laughter or simply enjoying each other’s company in quiet moments, these relationships were the cornerstone of her happiness and fulfillment. Walking into Dale and Shirley’s home, you couldn’t help but feel right at home yourself. Their welcoming demeanor and genuine hospitality created an atmosphere where visitors instantly felt comfortable. It was a place where you were always greeted with warmth and made to feel like part of the family.
Left to honor Shirley’s memory are her children Derrick Berry (Karen), Drew Berry (Linda) and Gina Baillie (Roy). Shirley’s legacy of love extends to her grandchildren, Belinda (Darren), Jennifer, Scott (Natasha), Lauren, Brett, Corey (Ashley), Jake (Emma), Lindsay, and Kayla (Josh), who were each blessed to have been touched by her encouragement and support and great-grandchildren – Jared, Owen, Alexis, Riley, Odin, Parker, Reid, Kate, Ruby, Everett, Ben and Eleanor. Additionally, she leaves behind a circle of extended family members and friends, all who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Shirley’s passing was preceded by her beloved husband Dale Berry, her dear sister Catherine Bentley, her brother Sidney Richards, and her eldest daughter, Jocelyn Berry. As they come together in eternity, their love and memories offer comfort in our sadness, while they continue to watch over us with warmth and pride.
A Service to Celebrate and honour Shirley’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 am. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Funeral Home Reception Centre, where we can come together to share memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, honoring her legacy of compassion and generosity.
As we reflect on Shirley’s life, let us find solace in the memories she leaves behind and take comfort in the knowledge that her love and strength will continue to guide and inspire us all.
