(1943–2024)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother at the age of 80 on March 22, 2024.
Mom is survived by her four children Sylvianne (Jeff), Raymond (Sylvie), Céline and Carolyn (Sakis); six wonderful grandchildren Gabrielle, Danielle, Jeremy, Sophie, Mia and Ellie and her loving brother Bill (Karen). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roger, as well as her parents Wanda Sutherland and Albert Hurding.
Mom was born in Toronto and raised in King City, Ontario. Then her family moved to Quebec City, where she attended St-Patrick’s High School. She went on to graduate from Nursing school at the Jeffrey Hale’s Hospital.
She married the love of her life, Roger Roberge just after finishing her nursing degree while he finished his surgical training in Chicoutimi. She was immersed in the French culture and learned to speak fluent French as an adult.
The young couple moved to Campbellton, N.B. in 1969 where Mom worked in Dad’s clinic and raised her four children. She was a devoted mother and wife. Mom was involved in many local activities and always made sure her four kids kept busy: skiing, gymnastics, swimming, hockey, girl guides, boy scouts to name a few. She had many friends with whom she remained in contact throughout the years.
Mom and Dad travelled the world together and immersed themselves in many different cultures.
She was passionate about music and a great piano player, anyone who knew her loved to hear her play. Her playing her grand piano made her and everyone around her feel happy.
In 1979, the family moved to Moncton, and as the kids grew up, Mom decided to follow a lifelong dream and attended Université de Moncton’s music conservatory.
Mom also became a real estate broker, started her own company and was a very successful entrepreneur, all while raising her family and supporting our father’s career.
Mom will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her kindness and generosity. Her joie de vivre and her laughter were contagious. As she always said, “Don’t be sad that it’s over, just be glad that it happened…”
We would like to express our gratitude for the wonderful staff at Briarlea’s who looked after our mother during her final year. She was very happy there.
We are also very grateful to the medical team at the Moncton City Hospital, their kindness and devotion to our mother were truly recognized and appreciated.
As per Mom’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to “The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation” (Breast Cancer) at friendsfoundation.ca

C’est avec la plus grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre mère à l’âge de 80 ans, le 22 mars 2024.
Elle laisse dans le deuil ses quatre enfants : Sylvianne (Jeff), Raymond (Sylvie), Céline et Carolyn (Sakis) ; ses six petits-enfants ; Gabrielle, Danielle, Jeremy, Sophie, Mia et Ellie et son frère adoré, Bill (Karen). Mary était l’épouse de feu Roger Roberge, et la fille de Wanda (Sutherland) et Albert Hurding.
Maman est née à Toronto et a grandi à King City, en Ontario. La famille s’est ensuite installée à Québec où Maman avait fréquenté St-Patrick’s High School. Après cela, elle a obtenu un diplôme d’infirmière au Jeffrey Hale Hospital.
Elle a marié son amour, Roger Roberge, après avoir terminé ses études pendant qu’il poursuivait sa résidence en chirurgie générale à Chicoutimi. Elle a baigné dans la culture francophone et a rapidement maitrisé la langue française.
Le jeune couple s’est par la suite installé à Campbellton au Nouveau-Brunswick en 1969, maman travaillait à la clinique de papa tout en élevant ses quatre enfants. Elle était une mère et une femme dévouée.
Maman était toujours en mouvement et participait à de nombreuses activités. Elle s’assurait de garder ses petits biens occupés : le ski, la natation, le hockey, les jeannettes et les scoutes pour en nommer quelques-uns. Elle avait de nombreux amis avec qui elle est restée en contact au fil des ans.
Maman et Papa ont fait le tour du monde ensemble et adoraient découvrir de nouvelles cultures.
Elle était une passionnée de la musique et une pianiste exceptionnelle, que tous adoraient entendre jouer. Quand Maman jouait son piano à queue, elle était heureuse et ce bonheur était partagé avec tous.
En 1979, la famille est déménagée à Moncton, et comme les enfants grandissaient, Maman a décidé de poursuivre le rêve d’une vie et s’inscrire à l’Université de Moncton au conservatoire de musique.
Maman est devenue courtier d’immobilier, a parti sa propre entreprise et a connu un succès monstre en affaire, tout ça en élevant ses quatre enfants et en soutenant la carrière de son mari.
Tu vas nous manquer maman, tous se souviendront de ta gentillesse et ta générosité. Ta joie de vivre et ton sens de l’humour étaient contagieux.
Comme elle le disait si bien, « Ne pleurons pas parce que c’est fini, réjouissons-nous que ce soit arrivé »
Nous désirons remercier les merveilleuses personnes qui se sont occupées de notre mère à la résidence Briarlea où elle passa la dernière année, elle était très heureuse là.
Nous sommes aussi très reconnaissants à toute l’équipe médicale du Moncton City Hospital; leur sensibilité et leur dévouement envers notre mère ne sont pas passé inaperçu et furent grandement apprécié.
Tel qu’elle le désirait, il n’y aura pas de service funéraire. Plutôt que des fleurs, svp considérer un don à la fondation : « The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation » (cancer du sein) au : friendsfoundation.ca
