Joan Trussell Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan Trussell. our much-loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend on December 8th, 2023, at the age of 81. Joan died under the loving care of the staff at Protem Memory Care in Moncton, NB, after a five-year journey with frontotemporal dementia.
Born in the UK and a long-time resident of Vancouver, BC, Joan moved to Moncton in 2018 to be closer to her daughter, Emma, her son-in-law, Yannick, and most importantly her three grandchildren, David, Maggie, and Chloe. Her willingness to uproot her life and leave behind a vast community of friends in Vancouver to be closer to her grandchildren was a testament to how much she loved her family, as well as to her fearless determination and sense of adventure. While the move didn’t unfold as planned, we are forever grateful that it brought her close to us at just the right time so that we could walk with her and care for her in her final years.
Joan will be sorely missed by Emma, Yannick, her grandchildren, her sister Lis, her brother Andy (Anne), her nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Jill and Gordon Dixon, her brother Colin, and her husband, Keith, who left us all too suddenly in 2016.
Joan will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her hospitality, her love of adventure, and her boundless energy. She was a woman of God with a heart for the poor and lonely. And she was so, so good at making friends.
We offer our special thanks to the staff at Protem Memory Care, where Joan lived out her last two and half years. We are grateful beyond words for the love and compassion that you showed her right up until her final breath.
In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Joan’s passion for helping those in need, we invite you to make a donation in her memory to Partners in Hope (www.partnersinhope.ca) in Vancouver or Harvest House Atlantic in Moncton.
Thank you to all who have offered condolences and shared your memories of Joan over the past few weeks. It warms our hearts to be reminded of all the ways in which she left her mark on the many people she knew throughout her life. She will not be easily forgotten.
A funeral will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 77 Hildegard Dr., Moncton on Thursday, January 11th, 2024, at 11:00am (Atlantic time). Details are being worked out for a live streaming of the event for those who are unable to attend from out of town.
Arrangements entrusted into the professional care of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995). Online condolences for the family can be shared at
