Jeffrey Salvis Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Maurice Salvis. He passed away on March 30th, 2024 at the Moncton Hospital at the age of 72. Jeff was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 22, 1951 to parents, Peggy and John Salvis. He will be greatly missed by his children, Lindsay (Pete) and Ryan (Rosie); grandchildren Owen, Keenan and Elsie; sisters Judy (Jim), Jeanette (Butch) and brother John (Carol) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jeff was a very talented and passionate athlete in his youth, he grew up playing hockey, baseball and football. He eventually focused on football and went on to play at Bishops University, where he got the nickname “Dirty Thirty”. He met many lifelong friends in his years at Bishop’s and all would agree that he took on the part of “Life of the Party” with ease. A role that he easily slipped into throughout his lifetime. Always a smile, joke (sometimes only funny to him), and a listening ear, Jeff was easy to be around. His love for sports was passed onto his children, where he took the role of cheerleader very seriously. Never putting pressure on his kids, he happily stood in the stands and supported them through the early mornings at the rink and the soccer field. No mention of sports would be complete without highlighting Jeff’s undying, soul crushing love for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Never a game missed, Jeff always holding out hope that “This is the year!”
Professionally, Jeff wore many hats over the years. After working in marketing for a couple of firms in the Greater Toronto Area, he took a job as Vice President of Marketing for the Atlantic Lottery Corporation which meant a big move for his wife, Lynn and two children. Jeff quickly adapted to the slower pace of life, often reminding everyone how nice it was to go to work and not have to listen to traffic reports!
If marketing or football weren’t in the cards, Jeff would have made a run to become the 6th member of The Beach Boys. His love for music was undeniable, always humming a tune, sharing a song he was excited about or reliving his time as a drummer, it was a big part of who he was. Jeff had a song for every occasion, Queen after a big sports victory, Les Miserables for Sunday dinners and Beach Boys or Roy Orbison for any road trip.
The highlight of his last chapter was certainly his grandchildren. Always asking how each were doing, watching Owen play hockey and following along with stories of their youth with a big smile on his face. They were, without a shadow of a doubt, the stars of his show. His love for sports and music, his sense of humour and unwavering kindness all being passed onto each of them.
At this time the family will not be having any service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations to a charity of the donor’s choice in Jeff’s name would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are in the professional care of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd, Moncton (506-858-1995). Condolences can be shared at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
