Elizabeth “Betty” Hudson Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Hudson, 89, of People’s Park Tower, passed away peacefully on Saturday, 2 March 2024, at The Moncton Hospital.
Born in Sus, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (McAuley) Sear.
After graduating from the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, Betty worked as an RN until she started her family. She was deeply involved with the Greater Moncton YMCA, serving as a mentor and advisor to teen girls in the Hi-Y program. Betty also held various leadership roles at the Y, including Past President and Atlantic Area Representative of the YMCA National Council. In 1986, she began a new career as the Co-Ordinator of the Youth Alternative Measures Program.
Betty’s dedication to her community was exceptional. She served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Moncton Youth Residence and Chairperson of the Southeast Community Foundation. She also contributed her time to the Youth Serving Partnership Committee, the Community Justice Committee with the John Howard Society and Codiac RCMP, the Moncton Hospital as a volunteer, and various organizations such as the United Way, Probus, and the Mayor’s Senior Advisory Committee.
Betty was actively involved with Mount Royal United Church, where she served as the Chairperson of the Outreach committee and was a long-time member of the Mount Royal Choir. Her outstanding community service led to her being honored as a Paul Harris recipient by the Moncton Rotary Club.
In her leisure time, Betty enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Domestic Engineer’s League for many years. She also loved sailing, traveling, and playing bridge. Known for her culinary skills, Betty became famous for her delicious chocolate chip cookies and brownies. She cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Karyn Hebert (Donald), Rodney Hudson (Susan) and Beth Hudson (Jeffrey); grandchildren Katelyn, Ryan (Nikki), Curtis (Laura), Jenecca and Aleksandra and great grandchildren Hudson, Mason and Rowyn.
Aside from her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Stewart Hudson, granddaughter Meagan Hudson-Fournier and brother Robert Sear.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated from Mount Royal United Church, 106 Mount Royal Blvd. Moncton with Date and Time to be announced, with Rev. Scott Stuart celebrant. Reception to follow in the church hall.
