Douglas William Anderson Obituary
Douglas William Anderson
(1935 – 2024)
What a dad, what a guy !
Our father, Douglas William Anderson, at 88 years old, passed away on March 23rd, 2024
at The Moncton Hospital.
He was born in Moncton NB, to Lester (Lec) and Viola Anderson on Oct 17, 1935.
Doug graduated from Moncton High School, where he met the love of his life, Hazel Fullerton. Doug and Hazel married and moved to Riverview, where they had their family of sons Dan & Chris, and a few years later our sister Sydnie.
An electrician by trade, he eventually moved on to sales, first as a rep for Moffat Appliances and then multiple companies in the jewelry industry, where he earned the moniker “Diamond Doug.” He and other multi-line reps joined the Moncton Council of the United Commercial Travelers of America, who together sponsored minor league hockey teams in Riverview and were influential in the building of the Riverview Arena, now known as the Byron Dobson Memorial Arena.
But our dad never lost sight of what was most important to him – his family. We were blessed to be treated to a house, summer cottages, and various camper trailers, all full of love and adventure. He was always involved in the activities of us three kids, and in the late 1970’s he accepted a new work opportunity in Calgary Alberta where we all were exposed to new opportunities of our own.
Yet the call of the Maritimes drew Dad and Mom back home for their retirement in 2009. Which lead to many visits back to the Maritimes for us, and many rounds of golf on Dad’s favorite course, the Petitcodiac Valley Golf and Country Club, where he was a member.
Doug is preceded in death by his wife/our mother Hazel, and their daughter/our sister Sydnie Waring, and his brother Bob Anderson.
He is survived by his sister Barb Hargrove and brother Ron Anderson
We, his kids Dan & Chris & Sydnie, worshipped our father. As did his grandkids who called him “Grandoug”. And all of us will miss him tremendously.
Arrangements entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton (506-858-1995).
