Donald MacDougall Obituary
T. Donald MacDougall, 92, of Royal Court, Riverview, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Born February 17, 1932 in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Henderson) MacDougall.
Don’s early years were spent in Moncton and having lost his father at the age of ten he was very close to his mother and siblings. He attended Moncton High School where he played rugby, basketball, and was president of the Student Council. Shortly after graduation he joined CN Railway (CNR) and retired after 36-years of service. He married his beloved wife Carmen (nee Clark) in 1957 and they raised three daughters together and set an example for all in their loving 67 years of marriage. Don was a wonderful, kind and loving husband and father and leaves countless cherished memories and a lasting legacy of a life well lived and well loved.
Active in local real estate and development, Don did business under Westmount Developments and DonCar Developments, and always conducted his affairs with the utmost of honesty and integrity. He was a member of First Baptist Church who walked faithfully with his God. Donald and his wife Carmen were involved with various charitable organizations over the years including World Vision, Christian Blind Mission, Operation Smile, Canadian Red Cross, and Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Don was a member of the Moncton Golf Club for over 50 years. In addition, he was active with many Moncton organizations including; Senior Bowling League, Probus Club, Big Brothers Association and he was inducted into The Moncton Sports Wall of Fame for coaching basketball.
Donald will be best remembered for his love of family, keen sense of humor and kind and gentle spirit.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Carmen Jean MacDougall; his daughters, Suzanne McGillivary (late Andrew), Carol-Jean Murray (Glenn) and Betty-Jo Booth (David); Grandchildren; Scott Murray (Julie), Jenna Cann (Jamey), Abigail Landry (Christopher); Benjamin McGillivary (Melissa) and Edwin Booth; Great grandchildren Gavin, Mya, Sheamus, Liam, Elizabeth, Emmet, Jane, Noah and Annie.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Verne Sinclair; brothers, William and Jack and also his son in law, Andrew McGillivary.
A service to celebrate and honour Donald’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral home chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton, NB (506-858-1995) on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment will take place at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Donald MacDougall may be made to Operation Smile, First Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.
