Bonita Laking Obituary
With tremendous sadness, we announce the passing of Bonita Laking, who left us on May 14, 2024.
Bonita was the loving mother of Vanessa (Laking) Poxleitner (Gary) and the late Jason Remeikis (April, 2024). She was an adoring grandmother to Josiah, Rebekah, and Jonah Poxleitner, and Alexis Anderson. Bonita was a devoted sister to Wayne Resmer and Candance Tobler, and a best friend to Robert Laking. Born in North Bay, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Majory Resmer. She attended teacher’s college in North Bay, where she made many lifelong friends.
Bonita had a fulfilling career as a teacher in Sudbury, Ontario. She was passionate about teaching kindergarten in a creative and inspiring way, and she adored her students and their families. Her natural creativity inspired and influenced the next generation. Many of her former students, upon meeting her in the community, would share how much she positively influenced their lives and how she was their favorite teacher. She will be deeply missed by her students.
Bonita loved traveling, especially to Florida during the winter months. Her family cherished the time spent with her in Florida, enjoying the warm weather, beaches, and local cuisine together.
In addition to her creativity, Bonita had a passion for interior design, decorating, and staging. She completed a course in interior design and staging and enjoyed applying her skills to the homes of family and friends. She particularly enjoyed designing her daughter’s modern, unique, and beautiful high-end kitchen. Bonita passed on her creativity to her daughter Vanessa and granddaughter Rebekah, with whom she often collaborated on design projects. Vanessa and Rebekah will deeply miss working with her.
Bonita was devoted to helping those in need, guided by her strong Christian values and morals. She loved to listen, encourage, and offer assistance to families and individuals, impacting and transforming many lives. She was known for her kindness to strangers and her desire to share the good news of Jesus’ love.
Bonita enjoyed her family and was devoted to supporting and nurturing them. Her children and grandchildren could always count on her. She loved encouraging them and cheering them on in all their endeavors. Her family will deeply miss her.
She will be deeply, deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:30 am at All Nations Church, 414 St Raphael St, Sudbury, Ontario.
