Anna (Anne) Smith Obituary
Anna (Ann) Mae Smith
1931 – 2024
With broken hearts, but grateful for her full life, the family would like to announce that Ann Smith passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, March 2, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. Ann was born to the late Frank and Greta (Wilson) Gallant on November 20, 1931.
Ann will be greatly missed by her husband of 69 years, Ralph Smith, her daughter Judy Chase and her cherished granddaughters, Amy (Michael Fougere) Chase and Molly (Mike Dempsey) Chase and her much loved granddog Chip.
In the fifties Ann worked as Assistant Office Manager of Blakeny Concrete Products Ltd., leaving work in the sixties after the birth of her daughter Judy. While excelling in business, family was where her heart belonged. She went back to work in the late seventies at the Sears Canada Credit office, but when her granddaughters were born in the early nineties, she retired for good. Taking an active part in their upbringing was the most important job she ever held. After-school at Grannies was extremely nurturing and delicious as well!
Always community minded, Ann was an active member of St. John’s United Church. She was a member of the choir and a life member of the UCW, holding the office of Treasurer of the UCW for sixteen years. She was an active member of the Y’s Womens club, Kinettes and a volunteer at The Moncton Hospital.
Ann and Ralph took time for fun as well. They were members of the Charlie’s Angels Round Dancing club, curled at the MCA and also found time to travel.
Family was Ann’s life and her proudest achievement. She was never happier than when the family was working on a project together, gathered in the sunroom, on the deck or at the dinner table. Her family will treasure all the time spent with her and will also cherish the quilts, mittens, hats and other mementos her talents provided. She was generous to a fault and oh so proud of her small family.
Ann was predeceased by her parents and brother, Frank Jr. (Bub), sisters, Marilyn, Carole and Gail.
A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 1:30 PM with Rev. Aaron Billard officiating.
If so desired, donations in Ann’s memory may be made to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or St. John’s United Church.
