Archibald “Arch” Charles Pafford, husband of Mireille Pafford of Miramichi, NB, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, after a long and valiant healthcare battle, on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, at the age of 82.
Born in Corner Brook, NL, on October 21st, 1941, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Sheppard) Pafford.
Arch served as a member of the Canadian Military for 11 years, and served postings in both France and Germany.
Arch was also an active and dedicated member of the community. He was a founding member and eventual leader of the Confederation of Regions provincial political party, an Artist, and avid Gardener. He was the founding President of the French Fort Cove Development Committee. He served as Chairman for the Local Service District of Nordin, the NB Figure Skating Championships, and the Concerned Citizen’s Committee. He was a Team Leader for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and a member of the Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Newcastle.
Arch is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 59 years, Mireille; one daughter, Diana Aubie (late Larry) of Sylvan Lake, AB; two sons: Andy Pafford (Shannon Barr) of Fredericton, NB, and Archy Pafford of Miramichi; four grandchildren: Tara (Gilles), Evan (Deidre), Ally (Jake), and Suri; four great-grandchildren: Nathan, Ava, Jett, and Nolan; sisters: Pearl (Don) of Ottawa, ON, Suzanne (late Harold) BC, and Barb (late Frank), Nancy (Victor), Lorraine (Lloyde), and Marilyn (Derek) all of Corner Brook, NL; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as brothers-in-law: André and Bernard; and sister-in-law, Nicole of France. Arch is also survived by his beloved dog, Alex.
Besides both of his parents, Arch is predeceased by brothers: Don (Janet) of Australia, Kevin (late Suzane) of Corner Brook, NL, Reginald (Dorothy) of Hamilton, ON; sister; Leah (Paul) of Corner Brook, NL; brother-in-law, Jean-Claude of France; and son-in-law, Larry Aubie.
Due to Arch’s passion for gardening, a Celebration of Life will take place at his home, in his beloved garden, on Thursday, June 27th, 2024, at 2-4 PM. Private interment will take place at a later date.
The family is grateful, and would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, and Medical Staff at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. A special thanks to all, especially the Nurses and Volunteers at Percy’s Place, Vondy House (Hospice Miramichi) for their compassion and care, as well as “Arch’s Angels” the NB Extra-Mural Nurses and the Nurses from Veteran Affairs.
