It is with broken hearts and much sadness that we announce the passing of our father on Monday August 19, 2024, at the Upper River Valley Hospital at the age of 81, James Walter Cluff was born in Woodstock NB August 26, 1942.
He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Davies (Owen) and Susan Bustard (Clark), his four grandsons, Nathan, Andrew, Devon, Adrian, his brother Frank Cluff, several nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by his parents Frank and Dorothy (McMullen) Cluff, his wife Shirley, sister in laws Janet Cluff, Mae Byrne, brother-in-law Linwood Kennedy.
James loved life and led a very busy one. He knew the meaning of hard work, starting his career in his father’s sawmill as a teen, then launching his own successful lumber business, “Cluff Bros. Lumber Ltd.”. Being the happiest when he was outdoors-hunting and fishing were two of his passions. He spent many years training hunting dogs and following the circuit to compete with them. Horses came next and he fell in love with the harness racing industry, he was an active member of the Woodstock Driving Club.
James started bowling very young he was inducted into the Hall of Fame with his team members of the “Woodstock Bowlacades”. James was a very proud to be a mason and a Shriner. He really enjoyed the time he spent serving on the Woodstock Town Council.
Jim’s best times were spent at his cottage at Skiff Lake as this meant “family time”. His family was the most important think in his life. Spending time with his four grandsons was precious to him. Words can not express how much he will be missed.
Dad and Mom are now forever together.
We didn’t know that morning that
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
