He lived life to
the fullest! It could have been his motto. He was known to most folks
as Bill. To me and my sister he was Dad. To his grandchildren and
great grandchildren, he was known as
Papa.
He started working
at a very young age as many of his generation did. He worked on a
farm, a logging camp, he sold wood- split it and delivered
it. He sold wood stoves. Tommy’s
flooring, Clearview Home Furnishing, Yesteryear furniture (many people
probably still own some of that lovely furniture). He owned
Family Outfitters. His
shop.
People liked to
come into his shop and chat with him. He LOVED that. His friends would
come by for a visit and he had a chair situated for people to relax
in. One of his favourite things to do at work was to surprise his
customers. He had fart machines set up all over the place. He liked to
set them off and watch their reactions. He had
other tricks set up in shop, but I think the fart machine was his
favourite! He was not afraid of hard work, but he was not afraid to
play either. As a young man he enjoyed snow mobile racing. He was very
good at it.
He loved his
dogs. He trained many dogs and one point he had 16 Huskies. He would
race them and worked with them year-round. He loved to go out in their
kennel with them and be surrounded by all of them. Later on in life,
he had one very loyal dog named Fred, a little beagle who was a loyal
companion to
him.
In his sixties he
biked across Canada. He started on the West coast and biked to the
East coast with the Tour du Canada. He wanted to make sure he did the
entire country, so he also did a separate tour to bike
Newfoundland! It was an amazing
accomplishment.
Dad had a zest for
life! He had a few costumes that he enjoyed. He had a Santa costume
and he enjoyed wearing it and biking around. He
brought lots of joy; he got lots of honks and
waving.
His other favourite
costume was a gorilla costume. He wore that at Halloween. He would
either sit on the steps or hid in the bushes. Most of the kids knew
about it. Some were too afraid, but others were so excited to see the
gorilla every year. So
fun.
Dad had a wonderful
personality. He was charming and charismatic, a
bit stubborn and had the ability to make others laugh and smile. Even
in the hospital a few of his nurses commented that they enjoyed
spending a little extra time with
him.
He loved his phone.
That may sound silly but, Dad used that phone to reach out to people.
Many looked forward to their delightful chats with
him.
His true passion
was his family.
He was a loyal and
devoted son. He loved his siblings so
much. He had many nieces and
nephews.
He loved his
“Gracie” who he is now reunited
with.
He was the best Dad
to his children.

And
Steven
Stevie passed away
at the tender age of 8 and Dad loyally visited his grave every Sunday
since 1978. It brings great joy to know
he is now reunited with his little boy
again.
He loved being Papa
to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed when they
came to visit him. Papa and Nana spoiled and showed them a fun
time.
One of the very
last things he said is pretty
profound.
He said family is
everything. Always remember that. Be
kind. Love
them.
He will be missed.
He will be fondly remembered. He will always be
loved.
Till we meet
again.
The family will
