On Thursday, June 13, 2024, Ruth Alcesta Nicholson (Smith) passed peacefully at the Dr Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born on July 25, 1941, Ruth was the daughter of the late Ruth Allen (Elliot) and Paul Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Errol Nicholson; daughter, Shelley Grasse (Carter); son, Steven Nicholson; grandchildren, Chelsea, Barrett and Summer; brother, Bob; and two sisters, Katherine and Barb; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was predeceased by her daughter, Laurie Coy (Nicholson); and two brothers, Tom and Bill.
Ruth dedicated her life to her family and nursing career. She worked at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for forty years in various areas, most prominently in Palliative Care and Mothers & Babies. Ruth and her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals of 4 SW and Palliative Care who provided wonderful care and assistance during her stay in the hospital.
Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 1 pm with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Mactaquac Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chalmers Foundation (Palliative Care) or a charity of your choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
