Robert “Bob”
Frederick Gibson
February 17, 1966 to January, 21st, 2024
The family of the late Robert F Gibson of Marysville, NB
(currently residing in Nashwaak Village, NB) announce his peaceful
passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on January 21,
2024. Bob was born in Fredericton, NB on February 17, 1966
to his parents Margaret Gibson and the late Robert James
Gibson.
In addition to his mother, Bob is survived by his wife
Shirley Estey, son Colby, brother Bill Gibson, Aunt Linda Dykeman,
Uncle Bill Gibson (yes, we have two Bills and two Bobs), uncles
Michael Downs and Clarence Dykeman, double cousins Louis Gibson, Sandy
Gibson, Johnny Gibson and Jenny Justason, as well as multiple cousins
on the Gibson side and several special nieces and nephews from
Shirley’s side.
He is predeceased by his father Bob, brother Peter, paternal
grandparents Clarence and Jean Gibson, maternal grandparents Osbourne
and Mildred Gereau, uncle Louis Gereau as well as aunts Joan Gibson
and Carol Downs.
Raised in Marysville and in close proximity to his double
cousins there was always fun to be found. And if Bob could
not find the fun, he would simply turn social director and create it.
Bob is known for his large Nashwaak River canoe runs, house and yard
parties as well as his annual winter garage event known as the
Sweetheart Triathlon. Bob welcomed and accepted everyone to
his events and into his life. It’s tough to
imagine anyone packing more fun into their life than Bob
did. Bob was a baseball and softball player but his
specialty was the bar room sport of pool where he won a provincial
Legion championship in 2000. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, four
wheeling and the outdoors in general. Most often those
activities took place at the family camp in Durham and along or on the
Nashwaak but Bob would also enjoy adventures to other places such as
fishing trips to Long Lake or simply to the beach at a
friend’s cottage, where in typical Bob style he was apt to
take a face first header into the sand. No matter where Bob went, he
was with or making new friends. Bob was handy and enjoyed wood
working, often giving the items he and Shirley created together to
others to brighten their day. For the last 20 plus years,
Bob has worked in a security management role at the DECRH/Horizon
where he left his mark on the organization and the people within
in. He did that to everyone everywhere.
Family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and
healthcare workers who always had Bob’s best interests at
heart as he battled through a string of bad breaks over the last few
years. Special thanks to Dr. Blyth and the team on 3SW who
cared for Bob when he was clearly behind the 8-ball in his final
days. Extra special thank you to nurse Janet who was not
only tender and caring but managed to stay professional even with Bob
constantly sweet-talking her. Bob recognized a good person
when he saw one.
Honorary pallbearers are Paul Hersey, Dean Murdock, Donnie
Colford, Hal Peterson, Matthew McIntryre, Mike Graves, Mark Burns,
Jared “Vila” Kennedy and cousin Joe Justason.
In keeping with
Bob’s wishes he will be cremated with Black Betty, the pool
cue that he won more games with than any other. Internment
beside his father in the Maryville Baptist cemetery at a later date.
There will be no visitation and no ceremonial funeral as in
Bob’s words no one likes going to those. Instead,
there will be a casual come-as-you-are celebration of his life on
Wednesday January 24th at the Marysville Heritage Center.
Social at 2:00 with Words of Remembrance at 3:00. Tea/coffee
and pickins’ (snacks) will be available. Bishop’s
Funeral Home and Crematorium are trusted with final
arrangements.
