The passing of Patrick Hugh Beggs of Fredericton, NB occurred on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Matt McClure and the staff of 4SE who provided outstanding care with respect, compassion, professionalism and amazing skill throughout Pat’s hospitalization.
Born June 7, 1947 in Edmonton, Alberta, Pat settled in Fredericton in the mid-1970’s. He married Wendy (nee Robinson) in 1979 and was a caring husband and stepfather. He and Wendy were avid gardeners, practitioners of yoga (both became certified to teach Sivananda Yoga) and runners. They were both members of the Fredericton Running Club, competing in numerous races, including the Montreal Marathon. Pat was employed with the Federal Government until his retirement. In addition, he and Wendy opened the Back Porch Bed and Breakfast in the early 1980’s.
Pat was a dedicated member of the Fredericton Lawn Bowling Club (FLBC) and the family is grateful to Club members for their support and friendship over many years, particularly during Pat’s illness. He was a skilled bowler who competed and won at national and international levels. Pat is remembered for his kindness, quiet nature, patience, and skill as a coach. He volunteered for numerous leadership roles in both the FLBC and Bowls New Brunswick and was a repository of knowledge about lawn bowling in New Brunswick. He was also involved with a number of alley bowling leagues in Fredericton and enjoyed both the competition and friendships. An avid tennis player in his earlier years, Pat became a referee with Tennis Canada in his early 70’s! Along with a close-knit group of lawn-bowlers, Pat held season-tickets to the UNB Reds for many years.
Pat is survived by his stepchildren, John Llambias of Regina, SK and Mary Lou Batty (Tom) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, (Chris and Emilie Llambias of Regina, SK, James Batty (Renee Tardif) and Thomas Batty of Ottawa, ON, Sam Batty and Matt Batty of Fredericton, NB; and great-grandchildren, Thomas and Julien Batty.
Pat was predeceased by his wife, Wendy in 2001 and by his parents and siblings.
