It is with great sadness that the family of Lorna Annette Estey announces her passing on January 24, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was the wife of the late Merlin Otto Estey.
Mum was the youngest daughter of Douglas and Victoria (O’Neil) Estey, born on October 5, 1933 in Lower Durham. She is survived by her children, Ray (Donna), Robin (Denise), Star (Alban Martin) Estey, Ruby (Nick) Burden, Roberta White, and Rose (Kevin) Curtis; grandchildren, Clint (Jacki) and Brock Estey, Stephen and Luke (Melissa) Estey, Victoria (Alex) and Nicholas (Alycia) Burden, Megan (Matt), Gordon and David White, Josie (Adam) Curtis and Georgia (Brandon) Davidson. She had 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Mum began life’s adventures with dad by her side in 1953. Together they raised six children on the farm they loved dearly. Alongside raising their children, she worked for Canada Post for 25 years, was a lifetime member of The Upper Durham WI and donated her time to neighbours, community and whoever needed a helping hand.
Our mum was a giver. She gave so much of herself to anyone and everyone who asked her. She looked after neighbourhood kids, helped less fortunate families, worked on numerous committees and events and she cherished every minute of it. Mum was an avid quilter and knitter, loved sewing, reading and hosting tea parties with her many visitors. Her willingness to drop whatever she was doing to help others showed her love for people, her kindness and her compassionate spirit.
It was mum’s Christian faith that allowed her to be able to serve her family and community the way she did. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and Saviour and a prayer warrior. She was a longstanding member of Nashwaak Village Baptist Church and served faithfully.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Funeral Service will take place from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon McLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 2pm with Pastor Allison MacLean officiating. Interment will take place in Upper Durham Memorial Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Lower Durham Temperance Union Memorial Cemeteries or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
