It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John
Peter Berry on February 15th, 2024. John passed peacefully with his
wife and daughter at his side. Born on January 18th, 1961, he was the
son of Elizabeth Batanoff and Daryl (John) Berry.
John moved to Fredericton, NB, at the age of 15. He continued
his life here, where he met his loving wife and best friend of 35
years, Heather, and purchased their beloved yellow house on Union
Street. Their relationship was made complete in this home with the
birth of their daughter, Kaitlynn. Here, they also welcomed many pets,
had canoe rides in the river out back, cared for the birds around the
home, and often had visitors coming in and out the back door. John
enjoyed spending his days in this home that he loved, where he was
often seen out on the back deck with a beer in hand and the radio
playing.
John was an avid outdoorsman. His favourite pastime was
fishing and being surrounded by nature. John also loved hunting, going
on mystery tours with his wife, taking photos, and watching sunsets.
Many of these activities were enjoyed with the lifelong friends he
cherished deeply. John, Heather, and Kaitlynn made many trips to the
‘farm’ in Perth, Ontario, a place which has been
owned by the Berry family since the 60’s. Visits always
consisted of time spent on the Tay River and gathering around for
great meals and conversations.
John was a jack of all trades. After graduating from
agricultural college in Nova Scotia, he had the opportunity to explore
many careers over his lifetime. One of which positions allowed him to
travel the world. He recently retired as a maintenance technician for
Gorham Real Estate.
John is survived by his wife, Heather (Cosman), and his
daughter, Kaitlynn. Additionally, he is survived by his three
siblings, Janet and her son, Kjartan; Katherine (Gerry); Richard
(Brenda); and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all
doctors, nurses, paramedics, and all healthcare workers who showed
care and compassion during this time.
A casual gathering of friends and
family, will be held on February 24th, 2024, from 1:00pm to
4:00pm at the Kinsmen Community Centre in Devon, to celebrate John’s
life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or a charity of
your choice.
