Obituary of Eleanor Jean Duncan
With sadness the family of Eleanor Jean Duncan, “Jeanie”, announces her passing at Medley Hall in Fredericton, New Brunswick on April 4, 2024. Born on July 6, 1950 in St. Stephen, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Arla (Lord) Tucker.
Jeanie grew up on Deer Island. Following her desire to help others – children always held a special place for her – she moved to Fredericton to attend Teachers College. Over the years, Jeanie earned several other degrees from UNB in Fredericton. Her 35-year career in primary education culminated as principal of two Fredericton area elementary schools. Upon retiring, Jeanie was able to indulge another love: travel. Many new places were enjoyed with the company of family and friends, but she was always happy to come home.
Jeanie was a generous, caring and giving lady, and would help many people throughout her lifetime. She joined Celestial Chapter #3, Order of the Eastern Star, to increase her ability to help those in need with a group of like-minded women and men who cared as deeply as she did. Throughout her 40 years of membership, she was proud to give her love and time; Jeanie served as Worthy Matron nine times for Celestial Chapter #3 and was honored to be Past Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of New Brunswick, Order of the Eastern Star.
Jeanie’s care for others was only exceeded by her love for her family, most dearly her son Jonathan, his wife Tanya, and her grandson Nicholas. She supported them, cheered them on, and loved them unconditionally. She was so very proud of all of them, and played an instrumental role in supporting her grandson in his love of music, and guitar, through her loving guidance and encouragement.
Jeanie will be greatly missed by her son, Jonathan (Tanya); grandson, Nicholas; sister, Claudia Gray (Steven); brother, Robert Tucker (Mary Beth); special cousin, Joanne Richardson (Lois Thorne); her Eastern Star “family”, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00pm. A memorial service to celebrate Jeanie’s life will take place at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 16, 2024, starting with an Eastern Star tribute at 1:00 pm. For those unable to attend the service, a livestream will be available at the following link: vimeo.com/event/4293265 Interment at the Mount Hope Cemetery on Deer Island will be Friday, May 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm for the family.
In recognition of all the giving Jeanie did in her life, in lieu of flowers, donations in her name to a charity of your choosing would be appreciated by the family.
